MOVE LIKE A SINNER by the band What Now

The band, What Now:

Did I mention the hawt lyrics? 😉

Lyrics to MOVE LIKE A SINNER, track 4 on the album by the same name                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   (from www.karaoke-lyrics.net)

Take me down we’ll watch ourselves
in the mirror,
Tie me up and tease my mind,
screaming louder,
It feels so good,
I need you now,
Bite your lip and pull your hair,
it’s far from over

One touch and you shiver,
We move like a sinner,
Your clothes come off,
we won’t go slow,

Won’t stop till you quiver,
Hands down like a sinner,
You taste so good,
we won’t go slow.

Taste the sweat from off your neck like a river, Whisper words into my ear shake the fever,
Your nails sink in but I feel nothing,
Bite your lip and pull your hair
It’s far from over

One touch and you shiver,
We move like a sinner,
Your clothes come off,
we won’t go slow,

Won’t stop till you quiver,
Hands down like a sinner,
You taste so good,
we won’t go slow.

Hold my hands and keep me down,
Move your body to the ground,
Feel the tension in the air,
Emotions scattered everywhere
Hold my hands and keep me down,
Move your body to the ground,
Feel the tension in the air,
Emotions scattered everywhere

One touch and you shiver,
We move like a sinner,
Your clothes come off,
we won’t go slow,

One touch and you shiver,
We move like a sinner,
Your clothes come off,
we won’t go slow,

Won’t stop till you quiver,
Hands down like a sinner,
You taste so good,
we won’t go slow

Review: “Beyond Eden (Eden book 1)” by Kele Moon

Mar 30

Beyond Eden cover

Review: Kele Moon’s debut novel leaves quite an impression. 404 pages long, this is not a quick read but it is a good one.

Although BEYOND EDEN lacked detail when it came to most of the BDSM pain scenes between Paul and Danny, you do get to see the full evolution of Eden’s renewed relationship with her two childhood best friends.

This was a departure for me. I’ve never read a ménage à trois like this before, with such dark themes and where there are two couples that become one about half-way through the story.

That being said, Ms Moon does a great job pulling you into the bonds between Eden and Paul, then Paul and Danny, Eden and Danny, ending with the rocky road to love amongst all three.

Paul’s fiancee, Trisha, is a true piece of work! I wonder if she will appear in a future book? Boy would that be a reveal of hidden, deeply-buried desires. If anyone can make this cold lady appealing, Ms Moon can. 🙂

I mention Trisha because Paul’s impending marriage to this “vanilla sex” woman has put a severe strain on his secret relationship with Danny, the man who loves him as he is but who can’t express that because thanks to Paul’s domineering, career-military father, being gay is just plain wrong.

Sadly we don’t get to see Paul interacting with his family, not even in a key scene near the end but what saves BEYOND EDEN is Ms Moon’s ability to fill you in through her characters’ conversations and recollections.

The reference to, but lack of interaction with, Paul’s family, plus the limited interaction with Eden’s family and the lack of detail when Danny and Paul engaged in fire play, are the reasons why I struggled when rating this book.

Ultimately, Ms Moon does a great job of bringing Eden, Paul and Danny closer together on an emotional and physical level, with details of a key BDSM scene in the latter half of the book which convinced me to give it 4 stars.

A significant reason for this came in the last quarter of BEYOND EDEN. Man-of-his-word that Paul is, he refuses to cut ties with Trisha and his domineering father, so Eden and Danny make a painful decision.

They find their own version of HEA and I was left wandering if Paul being part of their lives would require a sequel. But no…Paul finally, finally, allows himself to feel more than physical pain and sexual release, thus paving the way for him to seek his own version of heaven – a fully-committed relationship with his two dominant partners, Danny and Eden. (Eden may dominate Paul but she in turn is submissive to Danny).

Yup, this is NOT your average dominant-submissive story, which is what makes it special. BEYOND EDEN is not for everyone. You’re likely to either love it or hate it but you won’t walk away feeling bored nor are you likely to ever forget Eden, Paul and Danny. 🙂

What inspired you to write Ally and Matt’s story? Why a western?

Actually it wasn’t any one specific thing that inspired me.  It’s pretty simple, I love westerns and one day I just had an idea come to me.  Now as far as Ally and Matt in Freewill, I adapted this story to fit the guidelines of The Western Escape series by Decadent Publishing.

Did you struggle to write a particular scene?

You know I didn’t really struggle writing any of the scenes so would it be ok to give you one of my favorite scenes instead? (Sure :D)

Excerpt from TMHC:

“Ally-cat, this is Matt Gentry, my foreman.”

“Very nice to have you join us, ma’am,” he said and extended his hand.

She blanched, the smile fading from her eyes and her lips. She turned a glare on her father. “Foreman? Of this ranch?”

Matt tried to hide a smirk, a bit of satisfaction curling in his chest at her obvious discomfort. What the heck, why not make her squirm a little bit more? “Yes ma’am, that’s what he said. Foreman. Of this ranch.”

She seemed immobilized by shock as she looked between him and her father.

“Best damned foreman I’ve ever had, too!” Jesse chimed in, seeming not to even recognize her aggravation. “He could run this place without me.”

“Oh, well now, boss man, I wouldn’t go that far. This job wouldn’t be near as much fun without you.”

Anger burned red on her cheeks, and she turned to glare at Jesse. “Damn it, don’t you know—”

“Ally-cat, don’t you start on me. I run this ranch the way I see fit. I’ll always accept your business advice when it comes to the books, but it ends there.”

“But Daddy—”

“No. Don’t you ‘but Daddy’ me. I make the decisions on this ranch. I may be old but I’m not dead, not yet anyway.”

“Don’t talk like that. You won’t be going anywhere for a long time yet.” Ally’s voice softened and her shoulders sagged.

“Glad you think so, Ally-cat.” Jesse patted a spot next to him on the couch. ”Come sit with me while Maribella whips up something for us to eat.”

“If you’ll excuse me,” Matt said, backing out of the room. “I’ll go clean up before dinner.”

He angled toward the hallway leading to his room, sensing her gaze following his movement, and assumed she would prefer if he cleaned up, ate, and slept in the bunkhouse with the other hands for the night.

However, he wouldn’t be doing any of the sort. Jesse had given him a bedroom upstairs in the sprawling home, conveniently overlooking the barns, bunkhouse, and outbuildings, and he intended to use it same as always, especially if it pissed her off.

What’s your favourite or most memorable reader response to TMHC?

I think it would be words from two of the great reviews I got.

This one came from Not Now…Mommy’s Reading:

Well, let me tell you I loved Take Me Home Cowboy! I was up until the wee hours of the morning trying to finish. Then spent most of the day, strike that…um, the last month wondering how in the world I could write a review that was worthy of Krista and her novel.

While this one came from Books, Books and More Books:

I’ll be honest, I am a big fan of contemporary western romances…and books like Take Me Home, Cowboy are the reason. This is my first book by author Krista Ames and I was very impressed that she put such a delightful twist on old favorite ~ big city girl returns to her roots where she discovers love.

If your were offered a TV or movie deal for this or any of your other books, which would you choose? Who would play your characters?

Truthfully i wouldn’t be picky, I’d be happy with either or both! I know i would pick Colin Egglesfield for Matt (my hero) and Jennifer Love Hewitt for Ally(my heroine).

They are currently cast together on the tv series The Client List and i love love love them together !!!

Me too 😀

Welcome to my Caribbean Accent Book Reviews, Michelle. It’s always fun to chat about books set in my ‘backyard’

Thank you for having me! And if only I really were in your backyard… 🙂

If this were Twitter and you only had 120 characters to tell us about your book, what would you say?

TEMPTED BY TROUBLE – love, hate, passion and redemption. And all in a Caribbean setting!

TBT is set in the Caribbean. Tell us about the inspiration behind this setting. Is there a photo that best captures the locations described in the book?

It’s set in Grand Cayman – I chose that island because I know it’s a favourite spot for many business people, (and not just for its tax advantages!) and so it’s not beyond the realms of imagination that a hugely successful businessman would chose to base himself there for months on end.

I wanted it to be in the Caribbean because I’m obsessed with the area and it evokes such romantic connotations. But do you know what’s really sad? I’ve never been there (excuse me for a moment while I have a little sob).

(The photo below is of Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman)

Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman

What were the most fun and most challenging things about writing TEMPTED BY TROUBLE?

For me it was all fun – I loved writing it, even during the challenging moments. There’s a scene quite near the end, where Pippa’s on her own in a certain situation, and it’s a very emotional moment – that was my biggest challenge, doing my best to ensure all the emotions she was going through at that moment were conveyed on the page. I can only hope I succeeded.

What’s next for you in 2013?

My debut for Harlequin Presents / Mills & Boon Modern, The Rings That Bind, releases on July 23rd. I still keep letting out little squeals whenever I think about it!

Congrats Michelle ! 😀

Must-have snack/food while writing?

Some weeks I’ll scoff every bit of chocolate I can lay my hands on. Other weeks I’ll be in a more savoury mood and then I tend to snack on cream cheese and sundried tomatoes on Ryvita.

eBooks or paperbacks?

Paperbacks – nothing beats opening a new book for the first time and getting that fresh paper smell.

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I had to go away and think of this answer, and I think it would have to be Stephen King. I genuinely believe the man’s a genius. His books (excepting a few like The Dark Half which I loathed), especially over the past couple of decades, have such heart and such wonder to them that I am in absolute awe. I would love to sit down and meet the brain behind the books.

Michelle Smart is giving away a $30 gift card at the end of her TEMPTED BY TROUBLE blog tour. The winner gets to spend their prize at one of the following retailers – Amazon, Amazon UK, Barnes and Noble or Book Depository.

A bit about the author Michelle Smart:
Michelle’s love affair with books began as a baby when, according to her mum, she would throw her teddies out of the cot and cuddle with books instead. This love of all things wordy has never left her. A voracious reader, her tastes cross all genres. Her first experience with romance was as a child devouring copious amount of fairy tales. As her reading tastes evolved, she discovered something special–a book has the capacity to make her heart beat as if falling in love the first time.
When not reading or pretending to do the housework, Michelle loves nothing more than creating worlds of her own featuring handsome heroes and the sparkly, feisty women who refuse to take crap from them. She hopes her books can make her readers’ hearts beat a little faster, too.

TemptedbyTrouble 500pxA Bit about Tempted by Trouble:
As far as Marco’s concerned, wild child Pippa has ruined his life once and he’ll be damned if he lets her do it again. But it’s hard to reconcile the adolescent he knew with the mature, beautiful woman who stands before him. Soon he’s questioning if everything the media is claiming about Pippa is the truth, or if he should trust his heart.

Socialite Pippa Rowantree has always provided excellent fodder for the UK’s gossip rags. After another unfortunate scandal sends the gossips into a feeding frenzy, her shamed family retaliates by forcing her into hiding at old family friend, Marco Capello’s lush Caribbean estate—literally the last place on earth she wants to be.

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Detect Me” by Selma Wolfe

Mar 27

Detect MeThe always witty and fun Selma Wolfe is on CABR to share the secrets behind her novel, DETECT ME.

You get to win a copy of the book simply by posting a comment, answering the question found in the rafflecopter below.

Using 120 characters or less (a la Twitter), tell us about DETECT ME.

A failed artist falls for a hot but troubled detective and helps him hunt down an art thief.

That was way too easy, I am on Twitter FAR too much.

Did the idea for this book come to you in a dream perhaps or were you inspired by an incident or image?

This was one of those books that warped its way out an entirely different novel. Originally the novel was about an actress who starts dating her director only to fall for his brother… You see my point.

What was your favourite/most difficult scene to write?

Probably my favorite scene was the one where Nikki took that first purposeful step forward and decided, against her better judgment, that she wanted to be a part of Mark’s life.

Nikki was pretty sure there was no chance of this man sticking around in some non-work related capacity. She knew his type; she saw the signs. They were there in the intensity of his gaze, the ink-stains on his fingers, the extra clothes hung at the back of the room. More than that, it was in the way that Mark refused to come too close. His eyes slid away from her body instead of lingering, and he either wouldn’t or couldn’t cross that invisible boundary that kept them strangers instead of soon-to-be-lovers.

She’d dated this person before; hell, sometimes she’d been this person. No need for her to go there again.

And yet…

“Look,” Mark said, and her eyes snapped back up to his face. He looked as bewildered by the way things had snowballed as she felt. He scrubbed a hand over his face, pinched his eyebrows together, and exhaled. “Why don’t you just… come in to my office tomorrow morning, okay? You don’t need to commit to a job right this second, just come back tomorrow. We can talk about the case a little more. Maybe figure some things out about it. Maybe figure some things out about you.” His gaze seemed to pierce right through her, leaving her breathless. “Does that sound alright?”

It sounded more than alright. It sounded unbelievable, quite frankly, as in she couldn’t believe a man this handsome would be this interested in her. It didn’t make any sense.

Seeing her hesitation, Mark smiled wryly.

“I’ve been working on this case for six months now,” he said in a gently cajoling voice. “I could really use some help.”

Nikki bit her lip and nodded hesitantly. Her muscles felt achy and unsure. Everything felt like a misstep, but she couldn’t quite bear to say no.

“Alright,” she said quietly. “Tomorrow morning. I’ll be here.”

Mark gave her a lopsided grin. “That’s all I ask,” he said. “For now.”

What’s next for you in 2013?

I have a short story about secret agents and the guides who love them coming out at the beginning of April. And then later on this spring I’ll be releasing a novel about a female bodyguard!

If your were offered a TV or movie deal for DETECT ME, which would you choose? Who would play your characters?

Well, first of all I would fall over dead from shock. Lol! Probably I’d pick a movie because movies can pack alllll of the drama into just a couple hours, which is the kind of thing I love.

I’m not very knowledgeable about actors and actresses, so this is a tough question for me. But I’ll try…

I know he’s not necessarily the most traditionally handsome man, but I kind of had Jeremy Renner in the back of my head when I thought about Mark:

Emma Stone is a wee bit on the young side, but I think she would be great for Nikki’s mix of humor, insecurity, and occasional fierceness:

And I think Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje would be perfect for Mark’s cop friend Julian:

Pantser or plotter?

I used to be a pantser until I realized that working that way caused my stories to meander into a Bermuda Triangle of suck. I’m a pretty rabid plotter now, though I do end up adjusting my outlines a lot.

Dogs or cats?

I’m a total animal person and adore both, but dogs tend to be indifferent to me whereas every cat in the world wants to be my BFF. Hey, don’t they say cats are evil and dogs are good judges of chara- you know what, never mind, I don’t like where this is going.

Ideal getaway?

I’ve never once vacationed anywhere warm. Anywhere below the equator would be good!

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it it be and why?

This is the hardest question in the world for me because I’m a huge history nerd. But in the end if it’s just one single person, it would have to be Alexander the Great. To give you an idea of how much I love Alexander the Great, in high school I wrote a horrible historical romance novel with him as the hero. Oh dear, your interrogation skills have gotten to me, I HAVE REVEALED TOO MUCH.

Thanks for the great interview! 😀 This was loads of fun.

I had fun too 😀 Love your sense of humour!

Detect MeSynopsis of DETECT ME:

When Nikki Reed walks into Mark Harrison’s office, she’s there to sell out. Nikki is finally ready to give up her dream of being a professional artist and get a sensible 9-5 job. Working in marketing probably won’t be so bad, especially with a hot boss like Mark.

Only it’s Detective Harrison, and Nikki’s in the wrong office.

Mark is hot on the trail of notorious art thief Ghost, and when Nikki’s art knowledge proves useful, she finds herself dragged along for the adventure.

As she starts to fall for Mark’s brilliance and gruff kindness, Nikki knows she has to fight it – Mark is a workaholic who clearly isn’t interested in a serious relationship. And while Mark finds himself wanting to investigate Nikki as closely as one of his cases, he knows the consequences could be dire if he gets too close.

Because every detective has a past, and the secrets in Mark’s could prove deadly for both of them.

Jessica, if this were Twitter and you only had 120 characters to tell us about your book, what would you say?

Want to know what it’s really like to come home from war?

THE LONG WAY HOME (TLWH) takes us through your re-adjustment to life at home while still serving in the military. How has putting your experiences down on paper helped you…and others in a similar situation?

I think it’s really important that we as leaders share our stories. I mean, I’m a leader by virtue of my rank so when a young soldier is struggling and they can see that someone else has gone through it too, it’s really helpful. I know there is one awesome lady who I look up to very much who has gone through her own goo. The fact that she was willing to talk through her stuff with me and share her story with me helped me a lot.

Tell us about your favourite fan letter/interaction about TLWH

Over the course of writing these posts, I’ve gotten a lot of notes from people who are just amazed at what I was going through. I put on a smile and figured out how to keep going. That’s really it, you know? But the best part was talking with a former soldier who was like, yeah, I could totally relate to this. It matters that we share our stories, you know?

What did your family, your girls, think of the books? Have they read them?

I did keep copies for my kids to read when they get older. They’re too little right now and they don’t remember a lot of this stuff but when they’re older and they’re curious, they’ll have it, you know? Right now, they just think it’s cool that mommy is a writer.

What’s next for you in 2013?

Laura & Trent’s book, followed by Reza & Ben. Then after that, I have no idea:)

Ideal vacation?

Favourite snack/drink when writing?

Chocolate or fruits?

Am I allowed to say chocolate covered fruit?

eBooks or paperbacks?

I read eBooks because they’re easier to read when I’m working out but if a book’s a keeper? I buy the paperback.

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it it be and why?

Oh wow. Probably the Virgin Mary. I want to hear what it was like raising Jesus. Was He a good kid? Did He make Her want to pull her hair out sometimes. I’m really curious about that, lol!

Review: “Star Crossed” (Battered Hearts book 2) by Kele Moon

Mar 23

Star Crossed cover

Review: WOW. Kele Moon’s second book in the BATTERED HEARTS series was even better than the first, and that’s saying something.

The only problem I had, and it was a relatively minor one, was the vague description of the dress Jules wears during a key scene early on in the story. The reader was left guessing what made the dress so special even though her brother and later her date, Romeo, both commented on the significance of her outfit of choice. The description came much later in the evening.

That aside, STAR CROSSED kept me up all night, as I  was drawn into the drama, raw chemistry and emotions of Romeo and Juliet.

Ms Moon does a clever, new, take on Shakespeare’s tale of star-crossed lovers, Juliet ‘Jules’ Conner and Romeo ‘Gladiator’ Wellings. Clever title choice too 😉

Whereas Melody and Clay from DEFYING THE ODDS took their time getting to now each other before having sex, largely because of the physical abuse Melody suffered during her first marriage, Jules and Romeo give in to their  desire on their first date.

They have lots of sex, really, really hot sex. 😀 This book is listed as an erotic romance after all but Jules and Romeo have major obstacles in their path. How they deal with this and the humour that is present in Ms Moon’s writing, is what makes STAR CROSSED such a great read. 😀

Romeo has such a strong, loving bond with his younger brothers, Nova and Tino Moretti, but things are strained because both younger men ended up joining the New York mafia family their father belongs to.

Nova and Tino’s father is actually the mob boss’ son and when Romeo ended up in jail during their pre-teen years, their scumbag of a father swooped in and used them to his benefit – Nova is  a genius and Tino became ‘mob muscle’.

The complications from this are numerous and potentially fatal to all three brothers. This is Romeo’s challenge to a HEA with Jules.

For her, it’s about the loyalty to her family – twin-brother and town Sheriff, Wyatt Conner, and their mutual best friend, Clay “Powerhouse” Powers, who fought Romeo in the UFC Championship fight featured in book one.

After their seemingly one-night-stand, Jules and Romeo realise they have a strong connection but are unable to be together, either publicly or physically, for a long time.

Their relationship blossoms though…via telephone and eventually video chat 😉

Let me tell you, these two scorched my Kindle with their activities!

It was a wonder Jules and Romeo didn’t jump on each other when they met again. I’m guessing Hal’s Diner on a crowded lunch hour in a small town was not the best place to embrace, especially when your relationship is still a major secret. 😉

But boy, oh boy, did they make up for months apart! 😀

Romeo and his baby brother Tino end up moving to Garnett for training with Clay and others at the UFC-equipped gym owned by the Conners and Powers.

That’s when his relationship with Jules really begins to grow on an emotional level. There’s danger ahead though from the mafia family that even Nova, with his genius IQ, can’t see a way out of right now.

If you’ve read DEFYING THE ODDS, then prepare yourself for an even more shocking confrontation climax in STAR CROSSED. In makes the hostage situation in book 1 look like child’s play.

There is a happy ending though, so keep the faith. 🙂

Review: “Defying The Odds” (Battered Hearts book 1) by Kele Moon

Mar 22

Defying the Odds cover

Review: Going into this book, I wondered how new-to-me author Kele Moon would handle the pairing of a woman who escaped a physically abusive marriage with a man who makes his living in Mixed Martial Arts fights.

My take? Well-done Kele, well-done. 🙂

There’s some old fashioned sweet romance and humour mixed in with lusty thoughts; from Melody Dylan and Clay “Powerhouse” Powers. We meet the pair in Hal’s Diner on Thanksgiving, when Clay is eating alone while Melody is on duty.

She may be near broke, having left her abusive husband with the clothes on her back several months ago, but Melody is a kind woman who wants to make the hot yet lonely guy smile on a day that’s all about family.

Too bad for Clay it’s pumpkin pie. He hates it and wants to “gag” but not wanting to hurt the feelings of “the attractive blonde” who’d just served him the pie, Clay focuses on “the warm feeling in his chest” and takes a small bite.

Aww. Clay’s a sweetheart underneath all those big, beefy muscles.

Just as he tries taking another bite; he’s loathe to hurt Melody’s feelings or waste her money since she’s paid for the pie, in walks the Sheriff of Garnet and Clay’s best friend, Wyatt Conner.

Through Wyatt, and later on his sister Jules, we get our first insight into what makes Clay ‘tick’.

“Did you just smile at the new waitress?”

…Clay scowled. “I ain’t sweet.”

“I heard you say both thank you and sorry in less than a minute. Not to mention those pearly whites you were flashing,” Wyatt argued, grin still wide and shrewd. “Forget pralines, I think ya wanna bite of Miss Dylan’s pie.”

…Broad shouldered, massive arms, Wyatt was one of the biggest, toughest men in Garnet, and that was saying something. The only guy who’d probably get better odds in a fight just happened to be sitting across from him.

“How ’bout I take a bite outta you,” Clay shot back in a low and vicious voice.”

“Nah, I don’t swing that way.” Wyatt took a long drink of his coffee, seeming undisturbed by the fury directed at him. “Thanks for asking, though.”

(I loved the camaraderie between these three and am looking forward to reading their stories in the rest of the BATTERED HEARTS series.)

Clay’s decision to accept a piece of pumpkin pie from Melody was the first step toward their unique HEA but the journey was not without bumps.

DEFYNG THE ODDS may be listed under erotic romance, and yes there are hot sex scenes, but Melody and Clay take their time working up toward a physical relationship.

This makes sense, given her past and his reluctance to scare her off because of his job as a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter.

Kele Moon doesn’t go into too much detail about the physical abuse Melody suffered in the past but you get a very good idea of what she suffered through something as simple, and chilling, as when Melody tells Clay she used to take lots of baths with an herbal remedy because it made bruises fade faster.

Clay wanted to go find her scumbag of an ex-husband, Justin, and beat him up. That’s one fight the UFC heavyweight champion would really enjoy wining.

Knowing her ex began stalking her after the divorce, you’re wondering if and when Justin will show up in Garnet.

There’s a scary moment that sends Melody running away from her budding relationship.

Clay is left baffled and hurt and it’s not until he has championship fight out of state that Melody realises running away won’t solve anything.

The specter of Justin the ex is still there but you’re lulled into thinking he just might not show up at all…when suddenly, Melody finds herself face-to-face with him.

This is a book with a HEA, so you know Melody survives Justin’s clutches but not without blood being shed by more than one person.

AOTP cover

SC: Hi Sasha – thanks so much for having me to visit with you today!

CABR: I love your enthusiasm Serena. It’s always fun to chat with someone who’s happy 🙂

Tell us about ALL OVER THE PLACE, in 120 characters or less (a la Twitter).
Sexy cool or sexy smart? The place you’re meant to be, the person you’re meant to be with. #adventure #friends #truelove

This book seems chuck full of adventure and mystery. Did you start with an idea or did the story come to you fully-formed?

Have you seen that shampoo ad from the 80s, where Heather Locklear told two friends, and they told two friends, and so on, and so on…? Maybe you saw the Wayne’s World version!

Anyway, that’s what ideas are like. I started with a couple of what ifs, and one thing lead to another, and another, and another. (Maybe I should have mentioned Heather in the acknowledgements! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcskckuosxQ )

Serena Clarke picDid you have to conduct “research” in Paris and London? 🙂

I live pretty much on the opposite side of the world, in New Zealand, so I didn’t get to do a specific research trip.

But I’ve been lucky enough to live in London, and I’ve visited Paris a couple of times, so I had some experience to draw on. And for extra details, the internet was a huge help.

I’m back in Europe later this year, so I’ll be collecting lots of ideas then! And of course my own back yard is a pretty gorgeous place to set a book too. 😀

Which scene did you struggle to write and why? Please include an excerpt from it.

On a warm summer evening, Livi shares a kiss with someone (I won’t reveal who!) under the Eiffel Tower, and it seems like things might suddenly change direction. I wanted it to be as sweet and magical as the picture in my mind.

His warm breath mingled with hers as he gave an audible sigh, and she laughed in the kiss, all caution gone. The satchel slipped around between them as he leaned down, but she pushed it aside and pressed against him. As she stood on tiptoe to meld further into his kiss, the crowd seemed to be clapping only for them. In that moment, the city’s magic was as real as the grass under her feet and the tingle of sunburn on her bare arms.

What’s your schedule for 2013?

Finish my next book, and find a home for it! I’m also really lucky to be attending the Romantic Novelists’ Association summer party and AGM in London, which will be huge fun. As well as wonderful books, the RNA members are famous for their gorgeous shoes – so I have an excuse to go shopping!

Fruits or chocolate?

Can I cheat? Chocolate dipped strawberries. I love fruit, but writers can’t live without chocolate!

Of course you can, you are talking about chocolate and strawberries after all 😉

Dogs or cats?

Cats – I’m too allergic to dogs! If I could have a dog, it would be an Irish Wolfhound, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, or a rescue greyhound.

Ideal getaway?

Exploring amazing cities – London, Paris, New York, Prague, San Francisco, Melbourne, Stockholm… I dream of a romantic dinner under fairy lights on a New York rooftop, overlooking Central Park. I know I’m not the only one!

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I ran through so many people thinking about this question! Wouldn’t it be incredible to actually ask Jesus all the big questions? In the past, I’ve said Nora Ephron – When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Julie and Julia – I’m so sad there won’t be any more movies from her.

And there are lots of other writers of course. But one person I’d really like to meet is the incomparable Bill Murray – he’s such a legend. I’d tell him thank you for not making another Ghostbusters movie – some things should be left alone!

SC: Thanks for a great interview Sasha – that was a lot of fun!

*grins* Thank YOU Serena for such an honest and fun set of responses 🙂

Author’s bio: Serena Clarke grew up in a family of itchy-footed readers and dreamers – not concentrating, reading the atlas and Narnia books, and planning to escape somewhere magical as soon as she could.

When she was 16, she went from New Zealand to live in Sweden for a year. It was the beginning of many travels and adventures – and quite a few disasters!

She didn’t know it at the time, but eventually she’d be grateful for all the downs as well as the ups. As writers say in the face of adversity: “I can use that.” She’s now living back in New Zealand, where she writes stories reflecting her determined belief in magic, possibility and second chances – and happy endings!

Find Serena here – she’d love to hear from you!
