Welcome to my Caribbean Accent Book Reviews, Michelle. It’s always fun to chat about books set in my ‘backyard’
Thank you for having me! And if only I really were in your backyard… 🙂
If this were Twitter and you only had 120 characters to tell us about your book, what would you say?
TEMPTED BY TROUBLE – love, hate, passion and redemption. And all in a Caribbean setting!
TBT is set in the Caribbean. Tell us about the inspiration behind this setting. Is there a photo that best captures the locations described in the book?
It’s set in Grand Cayman – I chose that island because I know it’s a favourite spot for many business people, (and not just for its tax advantages!) and so it’s not beyond the realms of imagination that a hugely successful businessman would chose to base himself there for months on end.
I wanted it to be in the Caribbean because I’m obsessed with the area and it evokes such romantic connotations. But do you know what’s really sad? I’ve never been there (excuse me for a moment while I have a little sob).

What were the most fun and most challenging things about writing TEMPTED BY TROUBLE?
For me it was all fun – I loved writing it, even during the challenging moments. There’s a scene quite near the end, where Pippa’s on her own in a certain situation, and it’s a very emotional moment – that was my biggest challenge, doing my best to ensure all the emotions she was going through at that moment were conveyed on the page. I can only hope I succeeded.
What’s next for you in 2013?
My debut for Harlequin Presents / Mills & Boon Modern, The Rings That Bind, releases on July 23rd. I still keep letting out little squeals whenever I think about it!
Congrats Michelle ! 😀
In the bath with a good book. Preferably for an hour.
Must-have snack/food while writing?
Some weeks I’ll scoff every bit of chocolate I can lay my hands on. Other weeks I’ll be in a more savoury mood and then I tend to snack on cream cheese and sundried tomatoes on Ryvita.
eBooks or paperbacks?
Paperbacks – nothing beats opening a new book for the first time and getting that fresh paper smell.
If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I had to go away and think of this answer, and I think it would have to be Stephen King. I genuinely believe the man’s a genius. His books (excepting a few like The Dark Half which I loathed), especially over the past couple of decades, have such heart and such wonder to them that I am in absolute awe. I would love to sit down and meet the brain behind the books.
Michelle Smart is giving away a $30 gift card at the end of her TEMPTED BY TROUBLE blog tour. The winner gets to spend their prize at one of the following retailers – Amazon, Amazon UK, Barnes and Noble or Book Depository.
Socialite Pippa Rowantree has always provided excellent fodder for the UK’s gossip rags. After another unfortunate scandal sends the gossips into a feeding frenzy, her shamed family retaliates by forcing her into hiding at old family friend, Marco Capello’s lush Caribbean estate—literally the last place on earth she wants to be.
