Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Urgent: One Nanny Required” by Olivia Logan

Apr 30

CABR has done it again, snagging an interview and giveaway with a Crimson Romance debut author.

This time it’s my good friend, Olivia Logan, sharing some insight into URGENT: ONE NANNY REQUIRED 😀

Lest you think I’m biased, check out the GoodReads reviews for this sweet, sexy romance set between London and Hollywood.

UONR cover

Olivia, please tell us about your debut novel, URGENT: ONE NANNY REQUIRED

UONR’ is the story of Rania George who owns a sweet-shop and one dark night spots a little boy outside alone. Not having had the best childhood growing up she empathises with him and lets him in prepared to call his parents and give them a piece of her mind only to find his single dad on the doorstep annoyed at her!

Nicholas Trenton knows what is son is like with nannies however he seems to be different with this woman. He has a shoot coming up in LA for 3 weeks and yes she seems angry at him but from the looks of her shop she could use all the financial help she can get. Why not ask her to come along and be his nanny since she clearly doesn’t think the other nannies he hired in the past up to scratch.
Question is what has Rania got to lose by saying yes?

What was the hardest scene to write/edit in the novel?

For me the hardest scene to write is always the start. I know the middle scenes I want to include but I always find it hard getting it off the ground.
I struggled with this one as I wanted to show the relationship between Rania and Theo the little boy first as that is the main reason why she gets asked to go to LA.

She wasn’t sure if it was the unexpected “Excuse me” from the other side of the door or the worn surface of the ‘Welcome to Belle’s Sweets’ mat that made her slip, but within
seconds Rania George went one way as the mat went the other and she fell with a hard thud on her butt. Dazed, she found herself looking up into a pair of worried brown eyes.
If the boy thought it odd she was now on the floor with her legs askew, he was too polite to mention it.

“Are you closed?” His voice was barely audible over the icy British February wind.

Pushing herself up, she pointed to the faded ‘Closed’ sign at the front, “I’m afraid we shut early today.” The oddest feeling of déjà vu settled over her as she saw
the ash blond hair fall forward as he nodded slowly before turning to walk away. She recognized him. He was the same kid who hovered outside the shop window
every day after school with a harassed woman in tow. She swung the door wide as the rusty bolt gave way without a fuss. He paused, turning around, eyes downcast.

“Hey. Aren’t you a bit young to be out when it’s this late? And where is the lady that is normally with you?” she asked, her eyes combing up and down the street.
“She is my babysitter. And I don’t like that one,” came the sorrowful reply, lower lip coming forward and beginning to tremble. “Besides, I’m old enough. I’m eight.”

Her stomach flip-flopped at the words ‘that one.’ Memories she had thought long buried came back in waves. Images of countless babysitters for those times her mother
went out chasing her dream flashed before her. Angry tears burned behind her eyes and she blinked them away rapidly. “You shouldn’t be out on your own when it is so dark. Come in and we’ll give your house a call to let them know where you are,” she said, moving aside as he practically ran in, wandering from sweet jar to sweet jar, eyes agog at the variety.

Bolting the door, she gently moved him aside as she squeezed through the narrow aisle. “Right, little man, what’s your home number?” She picked up the banana handset
ready to give whoever answered a piece of her mind on child safety. He shrugged as he stared at a large jar of fizzy cola bottles. “Can’t remember. But my dad said I can get my own phone when I’m ten.”

Rania rolled her eyes heavenward. This seriously couldn’t be happening. “Well, how about……” She jumped as a sharp bang on the glass brought her planning to an end as a dark
shadow loomed large and ominous outside. “Hello. Can I help you?” she called out, replacing the receiver while handing a paper bag to the boy.

“I believe you have my son.” growled an angry masculine voice from the other side.

olivia loganOlivia how did you celebrate getting “the call” from Crimson Romance and seeing your book cover?

To celebrate I went shopping of course 😛 but when I first saw my book cover I was out at a meal with friends and after squee-ing for a good few minutes much to their embarrassment and shock of other diners we had a round of cocktails!

What’s next for you? New book coming out or working on a manuscript?

Though I’m always working on something new nothing is scheduled to come out just yet. My current MS is another story with a Hollywood leading man but not connected to ‘Urgent’. Still ironing out the creases but will keep you updated on its progress on my blog.
What’s the best way for readers to contact you?

I’m around on twitter as @olivia_logan_ or on my website www.olivialoganromance.com where they can also email me from the ‘Contact Me’ page.

Ideal getaway?

Anywhere in Italy

Paperbacks or eBooks?

That’s a toughie- eBooks for time saving but nothing like feeling the rustling of pages from a paperback.

Chocolates or fruits?

Do chocolate covered fruit count??? No- okay I guess I’ll take fruit, grapes especially. (LOL)

Panster or plotter?

Generally a plotter but then my characters tend to take me off track.

If you could spend time with anyone in history, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Elvis Presley because he is the king! 😀

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “If The Shoe Fits” by Amber T. Smith

Apr 29

Today on CABR I’m chatting with Amber T. Smith about her debut novel from Crimson Romance, IF THE SHOE FITS 🙂

If The Shoe Fits Cover

Amber, if you had to describe IF THE SHOE FITS to someone on Twitter, what would you say?
A fun and flirty modern fairy tale, with a feline fairy godmother thrown into the mix for some whimsical laugh out loud moments.
I like that! 🙂
What inspired you to write this twist on the Cinderella fairy-tale?
I woke up one morning, and there it was – the idea fully formed. I was in a panic because I’d promised to join a group of friends and write a novel in one month, and a couple of days before I was due to start writing, I still had nothing. I live in Cardiff (in the UK), and I have a gorgeous cat called Belle.
How these two facts came into play, I have no idea, but I suddenly decided that I would write a modern fairy tale based in my home city. To give it a twist, I took my cat as inspiration and thought I would do something different with the fairy godmother character. ‘Muse’ was born (the cat in the story), and the working title of the novel was ‘Cardiffella’.
I still don’t know to this day how the heck I came up with the idea, but the book virtually wrote itself, and I had an absolute blast with it!
Tell us about your favourite/most difficult scene to write
I think the most difficult scenes (but also my favourite, as it happens) were between Ella and Muse. I needed to make the dialogue believable, and as cats don’t generally speak in the real world, that was sometimes tricky. I think, though, that because Ella and Muse are such opposites, their scenes worked really well.  The following scene picks up just at the point when Muse first speaks to Ella:

Eleanor looked at her cat suspiciously.

“I know it’s not you talking to me, so why do I think that it is?”

“Of course it’s me who is talking to you, Ella. Who else would it be?” said Muse. Or at least, possibly Muse.

“Cats can’t speak. That’s not possible.”

“Of course we can speak; we’ve always been able to speak. You just need a certain type of human to understand us.”

“A crazy one?” spluttered Eleanor, dropping into a chair.

“We prefer the term ‘open-minded’ as opposed to crazy. One doesn’t like to think we are living with unstable humans, after all.”

“Oh yes, I can understand that,” said Eleanor faintly. “Er, why have I never heard you before now?”

“You just weren’t listening right, dear. I’ve been communicating with you for quite some time now, but you’ve been rather distracted.”

“I need a drink.”

“Not the vodka, please, Ella dear.”

“Wine is much better; more refined for a lady.”

“I’ve never pretended to be a ‘lady’, Muse,” snorted Eleanor, who was now enjoying the conversation, no matter how bizarre it seemed. She decided she was dreaming, and if that was the case, she would indulge in some vodka, even if it was far too early in the day.

In the spirit of embracing her dream, Eleanor decided to confide in Muse about her embarrassing encounters with Charming, culminating in the recent flashing of her bottom. Muse was very understanding, and offered advice on her predicament.

“You should try to be more careful when you are out and about, my dear. I would definitely advise clothes that aren’t easy to come off, for example. And perhaps you should leave the high heels at home in the future.”

“I wasn’t wearing heels or loose fitting clothes when I got stuck in the elevator,” pointed out Eleanor, as she downed a double vodka.

“No dear, but you weren’t being careful, were you, or you would have noticed your jacket getting caught in the door.”

“That’s true,” she sighed. “I can’t help it, though. That man makes me nervous.”

“Maybe so, but you need to keep your wits about you. By the by, I strongly advise putting the lid back on that bottle. Your father is due in half an hour, and unless I’m mistaken, you still haven’t put the chicken in the oven.”

“Ella, please try to use a more ladylike refrain in the future. That isn’t very becoming language for a lady to use.”

“You sound like Christie.”

Muse sniffed and walked out of the room with her tail in the air. Eleanor giggled, then pinched herself.

Double crap. She hadn’t been dreaming after all. Biting her lip, she grabbed the phone and punched in Jake’s number. After a few rings, the phone was answered and Jake’s voice tinkled over the line.

“What’s up, sweetie?”

“Jake, I think I’m losing my mind.”

If your were offered a TV or movie deal, which would you choose and why? Who would play your characters?
I think it would have to be a movie, mostly because the whimsical elements would probably be lost on a smaller screen. My heroine would be played by Sandra Bullock, mostly because she does so well with zany humour, while Charming would have to be played by Jensen Ackles. He’s my fangirl crush!! And of course, my own beautiful cat would have to play Muse. 😀
authorpic1Pantser or plotter?
I’m a pantser, definitely. I rarely have any idea what I’m doing, though I usually have a vague outline in my head. I prefer not knowing, though. It’s as much of an adventure for me as it is for my characters!
Favourite TV show/s?
Game of Thrones, Spartacus, Supernatural, Grey’s Anatomy… and of course, Once Upon A Time!
Ideal getaway?
New Zealand. As a huge Lord of the Rings fan, I would LOVE to visit all of the movie’s filming locations. Myself and two friends have the dream of tramping around New Zealand in the footsteps of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli!
If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it it be and why?
Oh, that’s a tricky one! I’m torn between Jane Austen and J.R.R.Tolkien. Austen because I’m fascinated by that era, and she was obviously such an enlightened lady, and Tolkien because he was such a genius. I think Tolkien wins by a whisker… his entire approach to writing was phenomenal. His mythology is simply awesome, and I’ll never tire of learning more about it.
Thanks for asking such great questions! I had fun answering them! 😀
This was fun Amber 🙂

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Real Men Don’t Quit” by Coleen Kwan

Apr 26

Real Men Dont Quit cover

Welcome back to CABR, Collen. 🙂 Please tell us about your newest release, REAL MEN DON’T QUIT.

Luke Maguire is a famous author who’s suffering such bad writer’s block he’s missed his deadline for the sequel to his bestseller by months.

In an attempt to finish his book, he moves into his agent’s weekend house but almost immediately gets involved with the feisty redhead next door and her cute three year old daughter.

Tyler Jones has her hands full raising her daughter on her own, running her coffee shop and art gallery with her best friend, and making jewelry. She doesn’t have time to be distracted by the hot, hunky writer next door, and besides, anything that might develop with Luke must be temporary because
he’s a gypsy who will never settle down.

Tyler and Luke don’t believe in happily ever after, but they just can’t suppress the burning attraction between them.

RMDQ is the sequel to REAL MEN DON’T BREAK HEARTS. Can the books be out of order?

Yes they certainly can! The couple from Real Men Don’t Break Hearts makes a reappearance in Real Men Don’t Quit, but this book keeps the focus squarely on Tyler and Luke.

Did you have to do any fun or unusual research while writing RMDQ?

Tyler makes jewelry, and I enjoyed researching the basic techniques of jewelry-making as well as browsing many websites selling gorgeous jewelry.

Were you inspired to write based on the REAL MEN DON’T part of the title or did that come after?

The title came after the first book was written! My editor and I were kicking around some names and none of them sounded right, but then my editor came up with Real Men Don’t Break Hearts, which everyone agreed was very catchy.

What’s next for you in 2013?

I’m polishing up the third and final Real Men story but I don’t have a firm release date for that. Later this year I’ll be releasing my first Entangled Indulgence title, which I’m very excited about. I also have a historical romance with a supernatural slant coming out in September.

Favourite snack while writing?

Tea and peanut butter sandwich. Chocolate if I really need a pick-me-up.

”Keeper’ books?

Not many because I live in a very small house, but I do have a lot of Dorothy Dunnett books.

If you could be anyone else for a day, from any time in history, who would you be and why?

I think I’d like to be myself when I was about twenty-five. It’d be great to be young again but with the wisdom of age! I’d be able to fit into skinny jeans, I wouldn’t have any gray hair, and I’d be able to see all my family and friends when they were young, too. Maybe I could also make some shrewd stock market investments!

Thanks for having me on your blog today!

You’re most welcome Coleen. Loved that you chose to be you at 25 if you had the chance to go back in time 🙂

Tour Wide Giveaway!

Coleen will be giving away three (3) $10 gift cards at the close of the tour. Gift cards will be good for Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Kobo (winners’ choice).

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Faking It” by Diane Alberts

Apr 24

Love a good fake engagement romance? Today’s your lucky day 🙂

Diane Alberts is talking to CABR about her newest contemporary romance, FAKING IT, and giving away an eBook copy to one lucky commentator

Faking It cover

Welcome to CABR Diane 🙂

Tell us, what inspired you to write about a fake proposal bringing together a young woman and her older brother’s best friend?

I love stories where the older brother’s best friend falls for the younger sister. Love, love, love them. They’re an auto buy for me. And I also adore the idea of a fake relationship, or in this case proposal, leading to the real deal.

It’s hard in that situation to remember it’s all fake. I love watching characters react to their feelings. There’s so many ways the story can take.

I love the cover of FAKING IT 🙂 Did you have any input in it? Have you ever gotten to be ‘hands-on’ with cover selections?

I didn’t, no! But I love it, too. I think the most “hands on” I’ve been with a cover would be TRY ME, but only because my former editor and I talked about it a little bit before he created it. That probably doesn’t count, does it? LOL

For the most part, we authors say covers we like, and tell the artist what the characters look like. The rest of the magic is up to the cover artist. In this case: Liz Pelletier, owner of Entangled Publishing.

Is there a particular scene in the book which seems to have resonated with readers? Were you surprised?

I’ve heard from readers that they really liked the scene where Derek sits outside of Stephanie’s door when she won’t let him in. I’ll provide a small snippet. 😀

Her voice cracked on the last word. The door slammed in his face; he barely had time to save his fingers from being crushed. The sound of her sobs came through the thin wood. He rested his brow against the door. He should leave. Give her her privacy.

But he couldn’t go.

He sat outside her door, his back against the wood. He couldn’t leave her when she was crying, but she wouldn’t accept his comfort. He could only be here for her, silent and unobtrusive. There was no way he could walk away from her. Not like this.

He would sooner rip his own heart from his chest.

Diane Alberts photoWhat’s next for you in 2013 Diane?

Hmm. I think next up with Entangled Publishing is LOVE ME- the second book in the Take a Chance series. (The first book was TRY ME) It’s Erica’s brother, Tommy. 😀

Favourite form of escapism?

Reading an awesome book, of course!

Paperbacks or eBooks?

eBooks, unless if it’s one of mine. Then I want a paperback to hold in my hands.

Ideal vacation?

Hot water. White sand. Lots of sun. Somewhere like Hawaii.

If you could be anyone in history for a day, who would you be and why?

Hmmm…I’m going to have to go with Queen Elizabeth I. I love that time period, and she ruled England without a man by her side before such things were heard of. She must’ve been a spitfire. 😉

Thanks so much for having me here today Sasha!

It was fun, so thank you Diane and I’m looking forward to meeting you at RT 2013 in Kansas City, MO. 🙂

Faking It coverFAKING IT Blurb:

Derek Rory never meant to propose to his best friend’s little sister. But when her boss tells a family-oriented investor he’s Stephanie’s fiancé, Derek can either play along or let her get fired.

He’s hardly one to turn away from a damsel in distress. If only that damsel wasn’t adorable and sexy with a laugh that could melt any cold business mogul’s heart.

When a business proposal becomes a marriage proposal, Stephanie Miller tries to keep it strictly boardroom. But when things get hot under the table, it’s all they can do to stay apart.

As the tangle of lies drags them deeper into the underhanded world of business politics, Stephanie finds herself in over her head—not just with her job, but with her “fiancé.” His eyes are cold, but his kisses light her on fire. If she’s not careful, she’ll end up faking her way into a real romance.

Guest Post & Giveaway: “The Best Man” by Ana Blaze

Apr 23

It’s my pleasure to welcome Ana Blaze to CABR 🙂

She’s brought along Colin Pratt, the hero of her contemporary romance from Entranced Publishing, THE BEST MAN

The Best Man cover

Ana: I’ve asked Colin to meet me at a cute little coffee shop and I find us a couch tucked away in one of the less populated corners. He arrives, promptly of course, carrying a book.

I peek at the binding and see that he is reading The Universe in a Nutshell by Stephen Hawking. Again. I know it’s one of his favorites. Colin looks great in his khakis and white button-down.

In deference to the Los Angeles heat, he’s rolled his sleeves up nearly to his elbows. His nose and sharp cheekbones are just a touch pink, he’s not used to getting so much sun, and his green eyes are twinkling with excitement. As usual, his light brown hair is just a touch messy. I find it endearing.

Colin places his book on the coffee table and offers to collect our normal order: green tea for me and earl grey for him. I tell him to make mine an iced as it really is quite warm, and sneak a peek at his bum as he walks away. Trust me, you’d look too; the man has a fine backside.

He’s back with our drinks a couple moments later and I see that he’s switched things up as well and gotten an iced coffee. Maybe he’s starting to enjoy his visit to the United States.

Ana: Hi, Colin. Thanks for stopping by.

Colin: I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m not certain I had a choice, love.

Ana: No. You really didn’t.

Colin: Not that I mind, of course. It’s always lovely to see you.

Ana: But you’d prefer to get back to your life?

Colin: It’s only that I am rather busy at the moment.

Ana: With?

Colin: Wooing Beth.

Ana: I didn’t realize anyone actually called it wooing these days.

Colin: Shall I say courting, then?

Ana: Sure, sweetie. We’ll go with courting. She’s making it tough, isn’t she?

Colin: A bit, but that’s fair.

Ana: Why don’t you tell me a little bit about Beth?

Colin: Don’t you know? Couldn’t you, in fact, tell me a few things?

Ana: Behave Colin. You know the rules: no spoilers.

Colin: When you say that, I can’t help imagining you as Dr. River Song.

Ana: Nice. Are you The Doctor in this scenario?

Colin: I dressed as The Doctor one Halloween when I was a boy. I had that terribly long scarf and a brown coat and—

Ana: I remember; you were adorable. But you were going to tell me about Beth.

Colin: She’s…remarkable. Gorgeous, of course, but that’s not–Beth is strong and kind and she does this thing with her tongue—

Ana: PG, Colin. Keep it PG.

Colin: *he blushes* Of course. I got carried away. Apologies. The thing about Beth is she’s unlike anyone I’ve ever met. She defies explanation or classification.

Ana: No worries. How did you two meet?

Colin: *groans* Beth was the planner for my brother’s wedding and I was his best man. It was NOT my finest hour.

Ana: Oh come on. I’ll bet you look great in a tux.

Colin: Please don’t ask me to tell this story.

Ana: Okay. I suppose if anyone is curious they can hear Beth’s side of things in the book.

Colin: You put that part in the book?

Ana: Oh yeah. I put all the best parts in the book.

Colin: You’re a cruel woman, Ana Blaze.

Ana: Oh stop pouting, Colin. I got you that kiss the other day, didn’t I?

Colin: It was brilliant, that kiss.

Ana: Of course it was. Now, answer a few quickies for us. Favorite food?

Colin: Curry

Ana: Favorite subject in school?

Colin: Literature. But honestly all of them, except maths.

Ana: Favorite musical artist?

Colin: Elvis Costello.

Ana: Favorite sexual position?

Colin: Now who’s being naughty?

Ana: Fine. How about your favorite color?

Colin: Blue. Is this all strictly necessary? I have some calls to make.

Ana: Okay. But come here and let me fix your hair before you run off.

Colin: You had to make it curly?

Ana: Yup. There.*I step back , survey my work and grin* You look very handsome, so buck up and go get her tiger!”

Colin: Tiger! Ha. Bless. Maybe you could drop me off at her office?

Ana: I suppose that could be arranged. Have fun, Colin and remember we’re all rooting for you.

Colin: Good. I need all the help I can get.

Sorry ladies, I had to let him go. But if you have a question you’d like me to ask Colin, leave it in the comments and I’ll try to persuade him to answer. I can always bribe him with sweets.

Beth Chase is too busy planning perfect weddings to worry about the lack of action in her own love life. But if she was looking for a man, she wouldn’t be looking at Colin Pratt. Her boss swears that Best Man Colin is a quiet scholar and science fiction writer who couldn’t possibly cause a fuss at his own brother’s wedding. He’s clearly never met the man in question.

Snarky, sexy and more than a little inebriated, Colin is the final obstacle between Beth and the last perfect wedding she needs to make partner. Of course, when she helps him into a taxi at the end of the night she has no idea that he’s only just begun to poke holes in her professional exterior. Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Breathing His Air” by Debra Kayn

Apr 22

Happy Release Day to one of the coolest authors I know – Debra Kayn! 😀

Breathing His Air cover

Hi Sasha, Thanks for having me here today! Yay! I was so excited that you asked me to be on your blog on release day.

Glad to be the one hosting you on release day Debra 🙂

If you had to describe your book, BREATHING HIS AIR, to someone on Twitter, what would you say?

Biker romance, controlling, possessive, sexy hero who will become her everything. (Then, I’d follow it up with about four more tweets, because I’m a talker and I can never stick to one tweet)

Did you have to do any fun research for the biker scenes? 🙂

Considering we had a motorcycle parked in our living room while I was writing this book, all I had to do was swivel the desk chair. My whole family rides, there’s always a motorcycle being worked on, and for some reason men think that the temperature in the house is “perfect” when detailing and working on motorcycles. Besides that, we live in the Pacific Northwest and have a lot of motorcycle clubs in the area, so the riders kept me motivated.

Tell us about your favourite/most difficult to write scene in the book.

Definitely the scene when Tori hears a gunshot at Cactus Cove, the local biker bar, was the most difficult. It was at this point that I realized there was something huge going on in her head. I knew why she was reacting the way she did, but she had yet to tell her secret on the pages. Her secret is shocking and horrifying, but she’s a stubborn heroine who held on as long as she could.

Motionless and despondent, she sat curled into a ball. Her hair fell over her face,

hiding it from his view. He cupped the top of her head. She whimpered. His fist

tightened. This was not the confident woman who was silly enough to bring him cookie

dough or give love advice to a group of roughneck bikers.

“Sh.” He dropped to his knee. “It’s me, Rain.”

Her arms were wrapped tight around her knees, holding them to her chest. He left his

hand on her. “Tori, you need to come out. I need to see if you’re hurt.”

No response. Not even an attempt to pull away from his touch. His chest tightened.

Not knowing what had sent her hiding into his office, he struggled with which direction

to take that would help her the most.

Determined to get Tori spitting mad at him again, he took the power out of her hands.

“Get up.”

She squeezed even tighter. He rubbed his arm across his mouth and spoke louder.

“Now, babe. Get up.”

She jerked upward, smashing his hand against the top of the desk. He rubbed her hair,

protecting her head in case she tried to retreat again. “You’re in my office.”

She turned and stared at him. The blank expression, the glossy eyes, the dry cheeks

took him by surprise. He quickly studied her face, looking for injuries. Finding none, he

gripped her arm and hauled her off the floor in the gentlest way possible.

Her legs supported her, but she stood lifeless in front of him. He cupped her face in his

hands, forcing her chin up, and studied her eyes. Both pupils stayed dilated even though

all the lights in the office were on.

“Tori?” he said.

She grabbed on to his vest. “He’ll kill you,” she whispered. “Hide.”

If you were offered a TV or movie deal, which would you choose and why? Who would play your characters?

Movie deal. Give me that once-in-a-lifetime shot at hitting it big time. Plus, I think an action figure of Rain would be pretty cool on my desk. I could sit him on a little motorcycle and putter him around the keyboard when I have writer’s block.

I’d pick Jessica Alba to play Tori while my easy, easy pick for the character of Rain would be Angel. He’s a birthday stripper in Israel who I think should come to the US and become a cover model for all my biker romance books.

Oh my! 😉

Angel's photo

Favourite snack while writing?

Either peanut M&M’s or wasabi peas

Chocolate or fruits?

White chocolate

Ideal getaway?

Road trip, camping…I love to rough it!

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it it be and why?

I’d want to meet Albert Einstein, just to mess with his head. I think he’s way too serious and I’d like to know if he could keep up with my habit of changing the subject in the middle of a sentence. I’d try to make him laugh.

Breathing His Air coverBREATHING HIS AIR:

She is love advice in a coffee shack, he’s protection in a biker bar. When her past meets his present it’s a killer cocktail that might get them shot, stabbed or otherwise dead.

TORI BALDWIN spends all her time traveling the states, running a mobile Coffee Shack and handing out love advice with every cup. She’s staked her rig in the parking lot of Cactus Cove—a local biker bar by all appearances— and plans to stay put for three months. Just long enough to make some money, without making any friends, before she moves to her next destination as she tries to stay ahead of a painful past.

RAIN BROOKSHIRE is the leader of the Bantorus motorcycle club, and owner of the Cactus Cove in the small town of Pitnam, Washington. He wants the Lagsturns, a rival-bad-news motorcycle club, to leave town before they infect his town with trouble. He doesn’t trust them after his ex-girlfriend hooked up with Sanchez, the Lagsturns’ leader, and screwed him over.

With bullets flying and the Lagsturns putting on the pressure, the only way to keep Tori safe—since she refuses to leave town—is for Rain to claim her as his woman. She has no idea that Rain’s played his hand for all to see in the biker world. It doesn’t help that Tori exhibits the three ideal classifications of his ideal woman—Classy, Sexy, and a total Goof— and he can’t help but posture and lay down the law. But, when it appears Tori’s life is in danger, and the Lagsturns are innocent, he isn’t going to let the law stop him from keeping his woman safe.

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Chasing Mrs Right” by Katee Robert

Apr 19

Chasing Mrs Right cover

Welcome to CABR Katee. I’ve been looking forward to chatting with you about  CHASING MRS RIGHT (CMR)  🙂

Let’s get right into it. Tell us about the story in CMR

CMR picks up shortly after the ending of WRONG BED, RIGHT GUY (WBRG). Ian is back in town and he’s not all that happy to be swept up into the events his sister is planning (the first being a welcome home party). He’s got borderline PTSD, and is having issues stepping back into civilian life. The last things he expects is to run into a gorgeous brunette who quiets all his issues just by being there. One hot night later and he discovers she’s actually his little sister’s best friend, Roxanne–and wants nothing to do with any kind of future. But Ian isn’t the kind of man to walk away from something he wants, so he sets out to convince Roxanne to give this thing between them a chance.

What inspired you to write about a military guy in pain?

Ian didn’t start out that way. I knew he was military, since that thing was set up in WBRG, but figuring out that he was in some serious pain came later. I have the deepest of respect for all our military men and women, so taking on this level of tortured hero was a little daunting–I really didn’t want to botch it! But his pain and the things he’s gone through were what helped him connect to Roxanne and get through her seriously substantial barriers, so I think it worked out for the best.

What was your favourite scene to write in CMR?

My favorite scene actually ended up cut from the book, but a close second was near the beginning when Roxanne tells Ian to come get her and… Well… 😉

His gaze raked up her body, as if memorizing the path some part of his body would take later, and he rose with a predatory grace. “Go.”

There was a threat and a promise in that one word. From the way he moved, he was going to take her when he got hold of her, regardless of where they were.

Oh, hot damn.

A bolt of pure desire shot through her body as she backed away, bumping into a chair as she did. She ignored the pain radiating through her hip and kept moving, stopping just inside the elevator doors.

“Come get me,” she mouthed.

His eyes flared and he started making his way to her, but the doors slid closed before he could get there.

Holy. Crap. Roxanne took a shuddering breath. As the elevator descended, she smoothed her hair back and tried to look like she just hadn’t had a top- five orgasm in the middle of a club with all her clothes on. What to do when she reached the ground floor? Should she bolt? Would this man really put that much effort into chasing her? And if she ran, where could she go to make sure he found her?

Five floors left.

Obviously, she was putting too much thought into this. She’d just walk out the front door. If he caught up with her, he caught up with her. If he didn’t, well, at least she got a fantastic orgasm out of the deal.

Oh, the lies she told herself to be okay. The numbers ticked down.
Two floors to go.

Roxanne tried out a smile in the reflective surface of the doors, but it looked shaky at best. Then the doors rolled open and there he was, leaning against the wall across from the elevator as if he hadn’t just sprinted down ten flights of stairs. A slow smile spread over his face at the sight of her.

Katee Robert photoWere the edits difficult or did you have an easy time writing?

It varies with each book, although I’ll admit that CMR should have been called Murphy’s Law. Nothing was particularly easy about it. There are books that flow so quickly, it’s everything I can do to keep up with the writing. This book… Not one of them. But I love how it turned out, so it was worth all the blood, sweat, and tears. 🙂

How did you come up with the idea for the Come Undone series?

It started with me promising my editor I’d write her a wrong bed book that didn’t involve infidelity. From there, things sort of spun out of control. I have this nasty habit of writing secondary characters that demand their own books. Roxanne and Ian were one of these stories that needed to be told and, of course, there’s Nathan. Don’t tell the others, but his book is my favorite (and I can promise it will be well worth the wait) 😉

Favourite ways to relax?

A glass of wine and a bloody game of Call of Duty.

What an unexpected yet very cool combo! 😀

Pantser or plotter?

A bit of both. It varies from book to book, but I’m becoming more and more of a plotter as time goes on.

If you could be anyone in history for a day, who would you be and why?

That’s a good one. I’m thinking Cleopatra because… Mark Antony. Also, it’d be fascinating to see the world through that woman’s eyes.

Thanks for chatting with me here on CABR Katee 🙂

Chasing Mrs Right coverBlurb:

It was only supposed to last one night…

Roxanne Stokes doesn’t believe in love. She does, however, believe in the sexy-as-sin stranger who literally knocks her off her feet in front of a nightclub. The chemistry sparking between them takes her breath away, and she’ll do anything to ease the pain in his eyes…until she realizes the handsome stranger is her best friend’s older brother who’s just come home from war.
Ian Walser had no idea the gorgeous woman he slept with the night of his homecoming party was his little sister’s best friend—or that she’d be gone before morning. Roxanne’s touch soothes him in a way nothing else can, and he’s not ready to walk away from that yet. Not when spending time with her gave Ian a glimpse of everything he’s ever wanted.
When his sister unwittingly pushes them together, he sees his chance. But convincing a woman who doesn’t believe in love that she’s his Mrs. Right might be harder than any mission Ian’s undertaken. Good thing this soldier likes a challenge…

Katee Robert photoAbout Katee:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Katee Robert, learned to tell stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way—as it often does—and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she’d like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time—when not lost in Far Reach worlds—playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

Enslaved 2nd cover

Different Types of Doms

When I started writing The Enslaved Trilogy, I knew I would have three Doms, and three submissives. But each book is so different, since each character is different.

Just as there are infinite types of men, men who have the sexual preference toward dominating women in bed are all different. The Dom’s background, his childhood, his previous lovers, his job, where he lives—everything about him makes him who he is. That includes in the bedroom!

Trevor Brooks in Enslaved is probably the kindest Dom I’ve ever written. Yes, he wants to tie Elisabeth up, to spank her, to do all sorts of dirty, sexy things to her…but he also wants to make sure she’s enjoying herself fully. And he won’t settle for anything less than a relationship where both of them can be happy.

When his friend and fellow Dom, Roman, takes over Elisabeth’s training, the contrast is extreme. He’s just a different, more sadistic (in a good way, if you’re into that sort of thing, wink wink) kind of guy. Roman, at his core, brings his dominance into every aspect of his life.

I loved having an opportunity to explore different Dominant/submissive dynamics in this trilogy. Thanks for having me today, and happy reading!

Blurb for Enslaved, Book One in the Enslaved Trilogy

from Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Star:

From a red-hot erotica writer comes an original eBook—a sensual romp across the playgrounds of the unbelievably rich and extremely sexy.

Elisabeth Anderson has seen Trevor and his friends at the infamous Manhattan BDSM club WhipperSnapper, where everyone calls them the BAD Boys, for “Billionaire Arrogant Doms.” The BAD Boys—Trevor Brooks, Marc Wilde, and Roman Chase—are aptly named; they’ve made money hand over fist due to their aggressive investing at the Brooks Wilde Chase Fund. These guys are so rich they can get away with anything, or so the rumors go.

Trevor gives Elisabeth full reign of his estate in Westchester, letting her do as she pleases. He has only two rules. Rule One: she must obey and submit to him while she is living in his house. Rule Two: always answer the blue cell phone. She’s happy to oblige, because being with Trevor makes her want to obey, to love him the way he seems to be falling for her. But Elisabeth’s never been good at being the quiet sub; she’s feisty and gets off on the punishments more than she does by pleasing Trevor.

Elizabeth can’t submit to Trevor the way he needs her to, so his friend and business partner (and fellow BAD Boy) Roman takes her in hand. But love triangles can have sharp edges…and somebody’s bound to get hurt.

Elisabeth unlocked the door and went to the bed, kneeling. She remained as motionless as possible, her eyes shut, to give Trevor the chance to see her before she saw him.

What was going to happen? To spend one evening getting flogged in public was one thing, but to be alone in a bedroom with a Dom she’d met once before was another.

The door didn’t squeak on its hinges as it opened, but she heard it quietly latch shut. And a click as the lock turned in place.

She trusted Gregory, and Gregory said to trust Trevor. Which is why she shouldn’t be so frightened suddenly. Weren’t they just bantering on the blue cell phone not a moment before?

Yes. She could trust Trevor.

She must—at this point, there was no going back. Or was there?

So now she was alone now with him. With Trevor.

Elisabeth could sense he was quite close to her, despite being unable to see him, her eyes still shut. A whiff of expensive cologne that reminded her of something—someone?—and then the heat of his hand on her chilled face.

She whimpered, scared now.

She didn’t know this man. What he was into. What he’d do to her, or make her do to him. Men had some kinky tastes, that she did know.

“Are you okay doing this?” he asked. “Do I have your consent?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Open your eyes, Elisabeth. Look at me.”

She obeyed, and saw he’d dimmed the lighting, casting the guest bedroom in shadow, though still softly lit. Sconces on the walls threw golden highlights across the mahogany furniture.

“You look frightened,” Trevor whispered. “Were you scared I was going to slap you?”

Why would such a gorgeous man want her, when he could have anyone? His dark hair, neatly trimmed, contrasted sharply with green eyes the color of the emerald ring her mother had given her before she passed. Of course, that emerald was of poor quality, cloudy with flecks of—

“You need to answer me when I ask you a direct question,” Trevor prompted.

Well, then. Let the games begin.

“I forgot the question,” she lied, and gave him what Gregory always called her “brat face,” but that she preferred to think of as a cheeky grin.

“Then I imagine you’re not too frightened to continue.”

Elisabeth laughed. Trevor was totally different from Gregory. From the flogging he’d given her at the club it was clear he knew what he was doing. So what did he need her for? Certainly not to practice on.

“Keep laughing, princess.”

She promptly shut her mouth, her gaze flickering involuntarily over to the large duffel bag on the low dresser across the room. He’d brought it in with him.

“I don’t like to slap faces, but I will make it difficult for you to sleep comfortably tonight.”

“Sorry, sir,” she replied, as nonchalantly as possible, hoping to make it clear she wasn’t sorry. Her nerves continued their skitter jangle, but now she was in her element. She knew how to force a man to earn her respect.

Technically she was supposed to submit to and respect him automatically because Gregory had ordered her to, but that’s not how it worked for her. Never had.

“No you’re not,” he said.

“I’m not,” she agreed. “I’m a fucking masochist. A pain-slut, remember? Do your worst.”

Trevor reached out casually and grabbed her by her hair, twisting the black strands in his fingers until she felt the sting on her scalp. “As you wish.”

Review: “Built 4 It” (Love-Bots book 3) by Daisy Harris

Apr 17

Built 4 It

Review: This book may only be 75 pages long but Daisy Harris packs a lot into book three of her Love-Bots series. I’ve never read her work before and am now looking forward to reading more about her steins 🙂

There’s science fiction,  m/m erotic romance, a dominant male stein (re-animated corpse) adjusting to life in a strange new world and a shy, virgin lab assistant who comes into his own while seeking safety for himself and the stein he’s falling in love with.

I would have liked to know who created steins, and how. Perhaps those questions were answered in the first two books but some more backstory would have been nice.

However there was just enough information for the reader to get the picture, allowing you to focus on the relationship between lab assistant Ben Speigel and leader of the steins in the lab, Zee.

The BUILT 4 lab is located  somewhere in Seattle, where a group of male steins are prepped for shipment to other labs where they are to be used in medical experiments. Lab assistant Ben Speigel cares about the steins and struggles to carry out his duties, which includes choosing which steins to ship out.

The steins’ leader, Zee, is a naturally dominant male whose intelligence is the more advanced than any of the other re-animated corpses. The younger the stein, the less awareness. Also, depending on the experiment they’re destined for, each stein has a different level of comprehension.

One day, an observant Ben realises Zee likes watching the TV in the lab. He decides to leave it on each night, providing the stein with a golden educational opportunity. Zee may not be able to read and write but he is very intelligent, quickly learning English in secret by copying what he sees and hears on a TV in the lab.

Ms Harris deals with the page limit by fast-forwarding three months at key points in the book. Case in point, three month after Ben first starting leaving the TV on, we find Ben trying to contact a stein rescue group because he knows Zee and the others are headed for extermination.

The steins are eventually rescued by the Zombie Underground but in a surprise move, Zee decides to isolate himself and Ben in the lab. This is where the men really begin forming a bond. Zee learns about shaving in a very touching yet erotic shower scene with Ben. The lab assistant in turn confesses he has never had sex and is not ready for what Zee wants, at least not yet.

They eventually leave the lab and must avoid capture by authorities out in the real world. Zombie Underground’s spunky rescue agent and fellow stein, Shani Brown, sets the Ben and Zee up in a safe house. Another round of adjustments follow, including the two becoming intimate. They have a physical and emotional compatibility which both cherish.

Another three month fast-forward gives us a look into Ben and Zee’s relationship and how they are handling life on the outside.

I look forward to reading more about them, seeing Shani with her boyfriend and learning more about the Zombie Underground in future Love-Bots books. 🙂

Review: “Extreme Love” by Abby Niles

Extreme Love cover

Review: I read EXTREME LOVE in one night (352 pages) because it was so good, I just had to know what came next. 🙂

Abby Niles is a new-to-me author but if her other books are as good as this one, I’ll be adding them to my auto-read list.

You might have guessed from the cover that EL is about a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter but there’s so much more to this story than an MMA fighter finding love.

It’s also about a woman on a journey toward a healthier body image whose looking to help others realise their own fitness dreams.

Dante “Inferno” Jones and Caitlyn Moore first meet when she attends an after-party for her best friend’s boyfriend, Dante’s friend and fellow MMA fighter.

These two made me alternately laugh, groan in frustration and go “wow” at their sexual chemistry.

Caitlyn abhors the violence of MMA and figures a hot, ripped, guy like Dante would never be attracted to a curvy, plus-sized woman like her. She’s now a size 12 but used to weigh 80 pounds more, so the reality of her new body has yet to register with Caitlyn herself.

This was one of my favourite aspects of ETERNAL LOVE. Being a curvy woman myself, it was delightfully refreshing to read about someone else with body issues finding love. 🙂

Caitlyn and Abby have inspired me to continue on my recently begun journey toward a healthier lifestyle. Thanks ladies!

Dante has no such weight problems and struggles at first to understand why it would be hard for someone to get/stay healthy.

He’s also tired of the groupie scene, many of the women with “sticks”  for legs as he puts it, so when a sexy woman with curves enters his life, there’s no way in hell 😉 the Inferno is gonna let her get away.

Dante’s instant attraction to Caitlyn, is fanned by her couldn’t-care-less attitude toward his sport and obvious fame.

Caitlyn pushes Dante away because she just doesn’t see what he sees, because she’s never had a real boyfriend and is afraid to be with someone as experienced as he is, and most importantly, because she’s afraid of risking her heart when he’s only in town for two months.

Thus begins the back-and-forth between these two.

Thanks to her two best friends, Caitlyn realises it’s time to embrace the new her and to open her heart to something special. Dante meanwhile, goes from wanting to be with her because she’s the opposite of the women he’s accustomed to, to wanting a real relationship full of love and romance.

No spoilers here, just trust me when I say you will enjoy reading EXTREME LOVE. So go pre-order your copy.

I hope Ms Niles includes Dante and Caitlyn in her future MMA novels. They are one special couple 🙂

What better way to fine-tune her non-existent flirting skills than with a male who won’t stick around? But Dante has no intention of being a practice dummy; he’s out for all or nothing. Dante “Inferno” Jones has one goal: win the Welterweight Championship. At a time when focus is crucial, the last thing he needs is a distraction.
