Star Crossed coverKele Moon is on CABR today!

(Can you tell I’m excited? LOL)

Kele is here to tell us about her erotic contemporary romance series, BATTERED HEARTS, from Loose Id.

If you enjoy passionate romance filled with obstacles the h/H DO overcome, and featuring some seriously hot Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters, then this is the series for you. 🙂

TWO lucky visitors to CABR will each win a book in the series, so be sure to POST A COMMENT and complete the RAFFLECOPTER GIVEAWAY.

Using 120 characters or less (a la Twitter), tell us about your BATTERED HEARTS series.

The Battered Hearts books are about a group of MMA tough guys and the women who love them. Steamy. Emotional. Exciting.

How does that work? But then of course, after 5 fun tales of UFC fighters LOL! Then there will be Nova. . . Who doesn’t fit into a box and conforms to no one 😀

What inspired you to write these amazing, strong characters who’ve each suffered in their own way?

I like fighters. There’s something very compelling about men who go into a cage to get beat up every day and then come back asking for more.

I enjoy exploring what drives certain people to do and be certain things and the world of MMA was a wide open playing field for someone like me who loves tortured heroes 😀

Did you struggle to write a particular scene in book 1 or 2? Or would this question apply to Wyatt’s book, which is still a WIP?

Actually, the Romeo and Jules’s first date scene from STAR CROSSED was very difficult. I didn’t realize until I started writing it that I had never written a sex scene where the two characters had just met. . . All my stories up until that point had been friends to lovers stories in one way or another.

I thought I would NEVER finish that date/sex scene!! And funny enough I get a lot of positive feedback on it. . . LOL! Which is nice considering how much time I spent ripping my hair out over it.

Excerpt from STAR CROSSED:

She huffed indignantly as he pushed the door open. “I’m talking to you.”

“I heard you.”

“You genuinely disappointed me.” She sounded stricken as she followed behind him. “I thought you were different from the fellas I’m used to, but it turns out you’re the same and—” Romeo pushed the door closed behind her, and Jules turned when it clicked shut. “What’re you doing?”

Romeo stepped into her personal space and then leaned forward to breathe her in. The perfume she wore was dark and seductive rather than sweet and floral like most women wore. Jesus, this woman even smelled perfect.

When Romeo moved to kiss her, she turned her head petulantly. Her breathing was shallow, her body tense, but she obviously wasn’t inclined to give in—yet.

He bent down and whispered against the smooth line of her throat, “I didn’t pay for dinner to be a chauvinist. I did it because I enjoyed your company, and I felt like you were worth it. Is that so bad?”

Jules appeared unmoved by his impassioned plea. “You think you’re charming.”

“Sometimes,” Romeo admitted, a smile tugging at his lips. “But it’s still the truth. I wanna kiss you, Juliet. Look at me.”

“No.” Jules’s voice was a low rasp, sounding like the denial hurt. “Maybe this is a mistake. I thought about it while I was walking up here. This is all wrong and—”

She was going to be stubborn, so Romeo took the initiative and cupped her face in both his large hands. He forced her to turn to him and studied her stunning features for one breathless moment. Her body tightened defensively, but she didn’t fight him as only the sound of their labored breathing filled the air. Jules’s eyes were wide, her cheeks more flushed than ever. Then she licked her full, lush bottom lip in a quick swipe of anticipation.

That was all the invitation he needed.

Romeo leaned down and kissed her before she got a chance to think about things any more than she already had. Jules moaned in response and arched into him. Her lips parted to his, soft and hungry for more. Romeo knew he was already too far gone as he deepened the kiss and greedily took what she was offering.

Has the response to this series surprised you in any way?

It has! Pleasantly so . . . It was a series I started on a whim when I had an idea about a big, badass fighter and a piece of pie. LOL!

But it’s grown out into something I’m really excited to be writing. . . I especially love the spin on the mafia boys Chuito, Tino and Nova whose stories are going to make up the backend of the series!

Defying the Odds coverIf you were offered a TV or movie deal for BATTERED HEARTS, which would you choose? Who would play your characters?

I would probably choose TV just because I know how the story is going to unfold in the long run. . . Too much for movies. . . Though I wouldn’t mind see Star Crossed on the big screen.

I don’t usually have actual actors in mind when I write. . . But for this series I have found a few that match.

Clay looks a lot like Joe Manganiello in my mind, which is funny because he is Italian. I know a lot of people think of Romeo when they see him, but I dunno, that’s just how I always pictured Clay.

And hands down, Chris Hemsworth as Wyatt. I saw a picture of him once with short hair, wearing flannel and I was like. . . OMG! It’s Wyatt!!

Here’s some of the pics from that shoot. . . What’d you think? Wyatt?

Other than that. . . I’m still looking 😀 And I’m always open to suggestions!

Pantser or plotter?

100% Pantser!

Dogs or cats?

I like both. . . I own neither. I have my hands full with three kids. LOL!

Chocolate or fruits?

Ideal getaway?

The beach!! Doesn’t even matter where. . . I grew up on an island. The ocean feeds my soul.

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it it be and why?

It’s a three way tie between my favorite authors Pat Conroy, JK Rowling and Rick Riordan 😀

Thanks for stopping by Kele.  🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed interviewing you. Loved the actors you’ve selected to play the men and women in BATTERED HEARTS.

Hopefully we really do get to see your books brought to life one day 🙂

I honestly don’t know what to say except there is just that hot factor when it comes to a badass fighter & his woman… Who wouldn’t like someone with moves both in & out of the ring?

  • barbara says:

I’ve not read any romances with MMA fighters yet. Look forward to my first experience. 🙂 Great interview!

  • I haven’t read a book about an MMA fighter yet, but i am looking forward to it!!!

Thank you again for the fun interview! I had a blast 😀

      You’re most welcome Kele 🙂

I loved the books the guys arw hot and love hard.

    • Kele Moon says:

Thank you, Dannielle! That thrills me to hear!! I spend a lot of late nights writing these books and cry a LOT of tears so knowing someone enjoyed them always means so much!!

  • janell yanik says:

i love the bad boys and they can protect me 😉

  • Sasha Devlin says:

I read the 1st one and loved it!!! And I actually just read Packing Heat this weekend and le sigh, I totally want more!

I’m curious, what did you do to research the MMA aspect of these books? I like to watch UFC but I don’t know much beyond what the commentators tell me?

    • Kele Moon says:

Oh Packing Heat. . . that one was such a guilty indulgence. . . I had so much fun writing it and every once in a while I’ll read it and there’s still that little voice in my head that says. . . This is so naughty and I LOVE IT! LOL!

Research. . . Well. . . I watch a lot of UFC footage, especially for things like the big fight at the end of Defying the Odds. I also watch the training camps the fighters do because I learn a lot from their tips. And I also watch the reality show The Ultimate Fighter and I learn a lot from that. I read a lot too. I spent a LOT of time reading about the different fighting styles and was on wikipedia tracking the different careers of different fighters depending on what type of fighter they were. Like Clay is a ground and pound fighter which makes him a little different from the other characters because he’s mostly a ground fighter and so his career focused around things like wrestling and such. Where as Wyatt and Romeo were both more Karate and boxing centric . . As for the martial arts research I have a friend whose father is a high ranking black belt and owns a dojo. . . So that’s lots of help ! 😀

HEE! So I do spend lots of time watching and reading and learning about these things. It’s funny, but I always wanted to be a writer. Since I was about 14 I knew I wanted to write romance novels when I grew up but I thought I’d hate the research part since school was never my favorite thing. It was the one thing I really dreaded about being a writer. . . but interestingly enough. . . I enjoy the research. When I’m into a story and/or a character and I’m learning things that are helping them form in my head. I LOVE THAT! It was one of the pleasant surprises of being a writer I didn’t count on.

  • Chanpreet says:

I think it’s the fact that they have to use their brains to win bouts, as well as their brawn. Smart=sexy just as much as built=sexy.

  • Lori Meehan says:

I have not read any erotic romance with MMA fighters in them. I love erotic romance because it like a lot of spice in my romance books.
The books look really good. Thanks for the interview.

    • Kele Moon says:

I love erotic romance. . . I love reading it and I love writing it because it lets us tell the whole story. So much of falling in love is about the sex and erotic romance lets us see that!!

  • Natalie says:

I haven’t actually read any books featuring MMA fighters yet. I look forward to deciding what I like best about them 🙂

  • Sara HJ says:

I have both these books on my TBR and can’t wait to get to them 🙂

  • Cat says:

I’ve never read any books with MMA fighters. Sounds interesting 🙂

  • Sue Peace says:

    Oh, those hot guys!! 😉

  • Timitra says:

I must admit I’ve never read a MMA book before but I’m intrigued and definitely looking forward to reading this series!

  • Amy R says:

I enjoy MMA series since the heros are usually alpha males.

  • SheriV says:

I love MMA stories, a big part of it is I love to watch MMA fights. 🙂 They are just so graceful and powerful!

  • Veronica says:

I don’t think I have ever read a story with a MMA fighter, but I do love stories about atheletes, so I know I would enjoy a story with a MMA character

  • Gail says:

Kele, I have read both books several times! While I loved Defying the Odds…I LOVED STAR CROSSED! The first date/sex scene was hot but when Romeo & Juliette spar…that whole chapter makes my heart melt! I can’t wait for Wyatt & Tabitha 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing your stories with us.
