Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “His Southern Temptation” by Robin Covington

Apr 12

I have three special guests on CABR today 🙂

Robin Covington and two of her favourite ‘Boys’ from her Entangled Publishing series, The Boys Are Back In Town, Lucky and Beck.

They’re here to talk about book two, HIS SOUTHERN TEMPTATION.

Enjoy 😉

His Southern Temptation 900px

Welcome back to CABR Robin pastedGraphic.pdf

Robin: Thanks for having me back. I brought a couple of people with me…actually they invited themselves along.

Lucky: Of course I did.  Sasha really wants to talk to me, you’ve been here already. (He leans forward, his blue eyes flashing with mischief) Hey Sasha. What’s up?

~waves and grins~ Hi yourself Lucky. I see Beck is along for this visit. Hi Beck.

Beck: I came to keep him out of trouble. (He slashes his sexy grin and gives Sasha the “come and get me look” from under is longish dark hair) Jack sent me actually…he’s with Kayla.

Lucky: I don’t need a babysitter. I don’t know what you guys are worried about. I’m turning over a new leaf. No more trouble for me. Quiet life. Boring. Total snore.

Beck: Yeah, right. (snorts with laughter) Look, ever since Taylor got back into town…

Lucky: What does Taylor have to do with it?

Beck: You’ve been off your game, man.

Lucky: Bullshit.

Beck: I wasn’t the one who got arrested…

Lucky: I was just held for questioning. There’s a big difference.

Beck: Not according to Teague…

Robin: Whoa. Whoa. Contrary to popular belief. Sasha wants to talk to me. So zip it.

LOL. You have your hands full with these guys huh Robin. 🙂

OK, now that they’re staying quiet for a bit, fill me in on Lucky’s book, HIS SOUTHERN TEMPTATION.

Robin:  HST is about Lucky…

Lucky: You see, I was just back home to live a normal life, go into farming with my dad and…wham!  Taylor Elliott is holding me at gunpoint and wanting to have an affair and getting into all kinds of trouble. I can’t just stand by and let her get killed by that crazy mob boss…and that’s when the whole “arrested” thing happened.

Beck: You left out the part about sleeping with Taylor.

Lucky: That’s personal.

Beck: A lot. Sleeping together a lot. You guys spend a lot of time together naked.

Lucky: Look who’s talking? At least I know her name.

Beck:  This isn’t about me. That’s book four.

Lucky: (looks at Robin) You’re gonna make him hurt in Book Four, right? Hives. Herpes. At least a stomach flu, right?

Robin: (ignoring them both) Next question?

I see I spoke too soon 🙂

HST is the eagerly-awaited sequel to A NIGHT OF SOUTHERN COMFORT. Can you read the books out of order?

Lucky: No. You want to read mine first. It’s awesome. Jack’s book is okay.

Beck: My book will be the best. Saving the best for last…

Robin: I’ve lost total control of this interview. I’m sorry. (She reaches for the beer on the table in front of her and takes a long swallow before answering). No, they are good as standalone books – so if you read them out of order, that’s okay.

Did you struggle to put down words when it came to a particular scene in the book?

If yes, please tell us about it and include an excerpt highlighting the ‘issue’

(Lucky opens his mouth to answer)

Robin: Zip it Landon. I’ll write a novella about you and I swear it won’t be pretty. Two words: prison boyfriend.

(Lucky leans back in his chair and grabs his beer, kicking Beck leg under the table when he laughs)

Robin:  What I call “the staircase scene” was the hardest one for me to write. Only because it is the black moment for the book. I didn’t know how I was going to get Lucky and Taylor together and it was a gut-wrenching scene to write.

Here’s a snippet:

“Stay.” He pulled back far enough to see her face, look into her eyes and let her see that he believed enough for both of them. “I love you. Stay.”

The time between his plea and her answer was not more than a heartbeat but it felt like everything stood still. As if the universe knew his world was about to collapse and it wanted to spare him the inevitable.

She smoothed a trembling hand along his face, burying her fingers in his hair as a tear spilled over and rolled down her cheek. She was really sorry, he read it in her eyes, but it didn’t stop her from saying the words he would have given a million lifetimes never to hear.

“Lucky, I can’t stay.”

RCDo you have a playlist for your books?

Lucky: Oh sweet baby Jesus. She always has a playlist for her books. I swear if I had to hear  ‘Drunk on You” by Luke Bryan one more time I was going to shoot something.

Beck: That’s a good song.

Lucky:  Not when she plays it morning, noon and night for weeks.  I used to love that song.

Robin: Okay, hot britches. What songs did you have on your playlist?

Lucky: Oh, now we’re talking.  “You Look Good in my Shirt” by Keith Urban, “My Kinda Party” by Jason Aldean.

Robin: “Want To” by Sugarland.

Lucky:  Yeah, I like that one too. It’s kind of my song with Taylor.

Beck: That sounds kind of personal.

Lucky: What?

Beck: You said talking about sleeping together was personal. I think talking about special songs and stuff is the personal stuff. Sex is …sex. We all do it.

Lucky:  Not with your best friend’s little sister. We’ve had this conversation.

Beck: I don’t get it.

Lucky: Moving on.

Robin, if you were offered a TV or movie deal for THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN, which would you choose and why? Who would play your characters?

Robin:  Oh easy question!  Movie deal – to see it up on the big screen? Awesome.

Lucky: I would be awesome on the big screen.

Beck: Me too. In 3D.

Lucky: Not all of you. Please God, no.

Robin:  I see Joe Manganiello as Jackson…

Lucky:  Good choice. He’s got the big, looming and frowning thing down. Total Jack.

Beck: No kidding.

Robin: Alex O’Loughlin as Lucky…

Alex O'Loughlin

Lucky:  I can live with that. He’s got the same tats I do. Cool guy.

Robin:  Teague looks like Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles

and Beck would be played by Jason Behr

Jason Behr

Beck:  Good choice. I’m loving that one.

Robin: I’m glad we agreed on something today.

I love your choices Robin. Hope you love the photos I chose for each guy 🙂 What a hot cast that would be! Does justice to the ‘Boys’ 😉

Chocolate or fruits?

Robin: Chocolate.

Lucky: Fruit, I guess.  Is there another choice? Whiskey? Steak?

Beck: Chocolate and fruit. Fed to the perfect woman…

Lucky: Next!

Ideal getaway?

Robin:  The Caribbean.

Lucky: I just got here. I’m not going anywhere.

Beck: Bed. With the perfect woman…

Lucky: Shut. Up.

If you could be someone from history for a day, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Robin: Jane Austen. I would love to see how she writes.

Beck: I have no idea.

Lucky: Me either. I think these are geared more for women.  I’m digging who I am right now.

Thank you all for such a fun, fast-paced interview! Robin you have a great group there and I look forward to reading all four of their stories.  😀

Guest Post and Giveaway: “Why MMA is A-freaking-mazing” by Gina L. Maxwell

Apr 11

My blog has been taken over by Gina L. Maxwell ! 😀

MMA fighters, swag and an eBook copy of her latest novel, RULES OF ENTANGLEMENTare all on offer today, so enjoy 🙂

Rules of Entanglement cover

Why MMA is A-freaking-mazing (and not just for the eye candy

Two things popped into my head the first time I saw a mixed martial arts fight. The first was that with few exceptions, MMA fighters look like they have less than four percent body fat. The second was totally inappropriate so I’m not going to talk about that, but if you’ve read my books, you can pretty much correctly assume what my second thought was. But moving right along, I was completely and totally intrigued with the entire MMA process. I mean sure, the fighters – from the neck down mostly cause their faces had been beat to hell and back – were definitive eye candy and the sport was the very definition of high octane, but what sparked my interest the most was how in the world these guys trained to look and fight the way they did.

Gina L Maxwell pic

I really got into watching the sport with my husband and we started watching shows like The Ultimate Fighter and really getting a sense for the ‘hows’ rather than the obvious va-va-va-voom factor. Let me tell you something, MMA fighters train hard! Constant cardio and monitoring of carbs and fat, these guys really take their sport seriously. It’s nothing for a fighter who isn’t even training for an upcoming fight to be in the gym five days a week for six hours a day. In a sport where you are moving non-stop, cardio is crucial and these fellas really know the meaning of the word stamina.

Now you may be wondering what in the world this has to do with romance, right? I’m getting there.

The key word was stamina, ladies ( and gents of course). Stamina. Three syllables that mean a world of awesome for us. Just ask Vanessa. In RULES OF ENTANGLEMENT,my heroine makes the crucial mistake of assuming that training for an MMA fight is nothing more than running a mile or two, smacking around a speed bag and not eating pasta for a week. Oh how wrong she was.  Jax not only shows her how difficult training for a fight can be, but how amazing it is as well.

Say it with me, folks. Sta-Mi-Na!

Growing up in a small town Fort Atkinson, WI, Gina L. Maxwell, formerly Bisbee, could often be found onstage in the latest theatrical production, performing with her high school show choir, or holding office in her local FFA chapter. She dreamed of following in her father’s footsteps in the entertainment business, of enabling her audience to forget about life for a few hours as they enjoyed the stories she told through her love of singing, dancing, and acting. It wasn’t until her sophomore year in college when she realized she had no acting talent to speak of and her dream needed some adjusting. Another ten years would pass before she discovered a different means to accomplishing the same dream.

Within those ten years Gina married her high school sweetheart, had two beautiful children, and moved more times than she cared to count. In 2009 she started writing as a hobby while her kids were in school, and it quickly became an obsession she couldn’t stop, and then a dream to publish stories of love and passion for romance addicts just like her.

Three years later, her dream came true when she signed with Entangled Publishing for a total of seven books in two of their imprints.

Her Fighting for Love series with MMA heroes debuted July 20th, 2012 for the digital Brazen imprint with the first book, Seducing Cinderella, and reached #9 on Barnes & Noble’s best seller list in just seven days.

The first book in her paranormal romance trilogy, Desires of the Soul, is set to release both digitally and in mass trade paperback in Summer 2013 for the Entangled Select imprint.

When she’s not writing or wrangling plot bunnies, Gina keeps busy with her wonderful family and their ever-growing extra-curricular schedules. Thanks to their immense patience and support, she’s able to do The Thing She Was Meant To Do and live her dream of bringing a little romantic fantasy to the world, even if only in the pages of a good book.

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Heartbreaker (The Warriors)” by Laura Taylor

Apr 10

Please welcome the wonderful, award-winning author, Laura Taylor to CABR   🙂

HEARTBREAKER, book 3 in her series The Warriors,  has been updated and re-published.

Laura will be chatting with us about the book and how she updated it, as well as doing an eBook Giveaway, so be sure to post a comment on the blog and complete the Rafflecopter

Heartbreaker cover

Laura, if you had to describe your book to someone on Twitter, what would you say?

Pride, determination, and sensuality collide…in HEARTBREAKER, Book 3: The Warrior Series!

I know this is an updated version of a Bantam Loveswept novel. Was it written before the 9/11 attacks?

Yes, the original version of HEARTBREAKER was written prior to 9/11, but other terrorist attacks had taken place across the globe.  Some involved our military personnel serving overseas, which made it very personal for me.

How did the events of 9/11 and subsequent terrorist attacks impact the updating of Bliss and Micah’s story?

A close friend perished in NYC on 9/11.  As well, my family has deep roots in the U.S. military and with the U.S. State Department, so I possess an insider’s knowledge of the behind the scenes consequences and responses to such events.  In HEARTBREAKER, the heroine Bliss is the daughter of a presidential envoy, while the hero Micah is in Naval Intelligence.  These facts contributed greatly to their characterizations in the novel.

Did you struggle to write a particular scene?

To be quite honest, I don’t struggle when I write. Writing is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel as though I am fulfilling my destiny when I write.  Many readers know that I took a hiatus from writing for more than 14 years.

During that hiatus I accepted the role of editorial consultant, working with both new and globally celebrated writers. I believe those years of nurturing other writers elevated my grasp of a writer’s responsibilities to the readers.  It also created a longing inside of me to return to the writing life. I am so happy that I am now able to devote myself to writing.

It took some real planning to figure out just how to present to the reader an off-the-charts sexy military hero whose eyesight was compromised, not to mention a heroine capable of standing up to his anger even as she tries not to fall in love with him – for the second time in her life!

Here’s the excerpt from HEARTBREAKER. Enjoy!

He hauled her up and into his lap. She weighed almost nothing, he realized in surprise. She also didn’t protest his aggressive behavior, which surprised him even more.

Her compassion-filled voice continued to echo in his head as he spanned her waist with his hands and held her atop his thighs. He trembled with tension and a startling renewal of the desire he’d felt just minutes earlier. And then he realized somewhat belatedly that Bliss wasn’t fighting to free herself. Hell, her breathing hadn’t even changed and her pulse remained steady.

Micah frowned. Did nothing shake this woman? Why wasn’t she upset with him? Why wasn’t she fighting him like a cornered wildcat? Did she think the bandages that covered his eyes made him less of a man, made him impervious to sexual desire? He assumed the latter, and anger reignited within him.

“Now what?”

Her calm voice stung like salt applied to an open wound. Micah’s grip on her waist tightened. He wanted her to struggle against his hold, but she didn’t, damn her! He exhaled, the sound ragged with emotions he couldn’t even begin to articulate.

What did he want from her?

What’s your favourite (or most memorable) reader response to HEARTBREAKER?

The following words:

“Storytelling at its all-time best. HEARTBREAKER is a must read for all fans of romance.”

The reader, whom I later learned was a book reviewer in the UK, left this comment about HEARTBREAKER on the Amazon Kindle book page.  Each time I read it, it validates me as a writer, and it motivates me to continue to bring as much truth to the page as possible in every romance novel that I write.

The reader had no way of knowing that military heroes are particularly significant to me, or that they symbolize members of my own family, men and women who possess both integrity and personal honor, or that being a romance writer is the fulfillment of my destiny.

If you were offered a TV or movie deal for HEARTBREAKER, or any of your other books, which would you choose?

I would select a feature film, because there are fewer boundaries placed on a screenplay, as opposed to a teleplay for a network or cable TV production. Plus, I love sensuality, and it belongs in any production based on my writing. I live in Southern California, so I’ve been privileged to observe both feature film and movies for television productions.

Laura Taylor photoFavourite place to write?

At the beach – don’t laugh – I’m serious! I love being out of doors, so I take my laptop, a comfy beach chair, and an umbrella to the local beach.

Paperbacks or eBooks?

Both!  But I personally love the convenience of eBooks.  It means I am never without a book to read.

Pantser or plotter?

Surprise!  Neither!  I’m a film buff – if the story unfolds like a film in my mind, then I know I’ve got a book worth writing.

Ideal getaway?

In truth, I have 2 favourite spots:

1.  Tuscany, my late father’s home province in Italy.

2.  The guest cottage of a friend who lives in the Caribbean.

Can you tell I love balmy temps and being near (or on) the beach?  😀

I love your getaway choices Laura! 🙂

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be and why?

That’s easy!  I’ve always been curious about Cleopatra.  She must have been a woman of determination, courage, and strength.  Thanks to her forceful will, facile mind, and ability to strategize, she very nearly toppled the Roman Empire. To my way of thinking, that level of assertiveness takes major confidence.  My heroines are assertive women, even though they’re not attempting to overthrow empires, so it’s not surprising that I would admire women (past and present) who possess the same quality.

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Bargain With The Beast” and “Under His Wings” by Naima Simone

Apr 9

Please welcome Ellora’s Cave author, Naima Simone, to CABR. 🙂

Enjoy reading paranormal romance that’s a bit off the beaten path?

Under His Wings Cover

Perhaps you fancy an erotic romance?

Bargain with the Beast cover

Then read on to find out how you could WIN one of two books by Naima. 🙂

Using 120 characters or less per book, tell us about BARGAIN WITH THE BEAST and UNDER HIS WINGS.

BARGAIN WITH THE BEAST is an unleashed fairy tale of blackmail, seduction and love. Oh and lotsa hot sex! Not your mama’s bedtime story!

A mythical warrior steps from a woman’s dreams to protect her from a monster hell bent on revenge. She finds love and desire UNDER HIS WINGS.

Were both books written around the same time? How do you juggle multiple plots?

Actually, Bargain with the Beast is a re-release. So I didn’t work on it at the same time I wrote Under His Wings. Their edits overlapped, but not the actual writing process. I don’t know, I can’t work on two different books at one time.

I fully immerse myself into the characters, their histories, their romance and story. It’s difficult for me to flip-flop. For instance, after I finished UHW—which is paranormal—I had to jump into a romantic suspense for another publisher.

It took me a few days to get my head out of a world filled with hippogryphs, magic and erotic love scenes into one with secrets, humans, murder and sensual love scenes. Well…they both had murder. And love. I’m totally losing my point here…

Bargain with the Beast coverTell us about your favourite/most difficult to write scene in BARGAIN WITH THE BEAST and UNDER HIS WINGS

I know people can get tired of hearing romance authors say one of the most difficult scenes to write is a loves scene. It’s like, huh. Yeah. Cry me a river. LOL!

But this scene in BARGAIN WITH THE BEAST was hard because it was a turning point for the hero, Xavier.

He admitted to himself that he wanted more than seven days of submission and sex with the heroine, Gwendolyn.

He desired her heart—he desired all over her. But he still didn’t believe she could see past his scars—physical and emotional. So without further ado…

He wanted Gwen. Nothing less than all of her would do.

From the moment she’d sought him out for help, he’d demanded everything from her—her body, her submission, her trust—and had offered nothing in return.

His turn to put up or shut up had arrived.

He fisted the front of his shirt. A pit yawned wide in his stomach and his heart plummeted toward the dizzying, black depth. The last woman to glimpse what lay under his shirt and pants had been so disgusted she’d abandoned him. Fear coated his mouth, his nostrils. All he tasted and smelled were ash and smoke. For a brief moment, he considered whirling around and walking out. Shame flayed him and the stranglehold he had on his shirt tightened. The idea of baring the map of scars disfiguring his body scared him shitless.

But if he desired her trust, he had to battle his fears, emerge from behind the false protection of pride and seize this last chance to make amends with her. A last chance to show Gwen her fire, touch and uninhibited response meant more than his pride. She meant more.

He inhaled. Exhaled.

And yanked the shirttails from the band of his pants.

The unyielding line of her mouth softened, her lips parted and, as he freed the small buttons from their corresponding holes, her sharp intake of breath reached across the room.

Damn, he loved witnessing the evidence of his effect on her. Hours on a shrink’s couch couldn’t begin to heal his battered, broken spirit like one soft, sensuous gasp from this beautiful, giving woman.

“What are you doing?” she demanded, the small tremble in her voice undermining the show of bravado.

He gripped the sides of the black material, his fingers tightening for a long instant before he shrugged it off his shoulders.

“Getting undressed.” He tugged his belt buckle open. “Now get naked.”

UNDER HIS WINGS is my first paranormal…ever. So the entire book was full of “Oh my God, this sucks!” and “Oh snap! I can’t believe I wrote that!” moments. LOL! No lie, the name on the cover should be Sybil instead of Naima Simone!

That said, picking a favorite scene is difficult because I adore this book! But the scene that comes to mind is a one where the power goes out in a storm, and Tamar lets her guard down with Nicolai.

She’s a survivor of not only an abusive relationship, but a terrible plane crash that has left her with physical scars and phobias of flying and the dark. Here, she allows Nicolai to glimpse her emotional wounds instead of the strength he’s seen up until now.

Tamar waited. Braced herself for the exasperated sigh. The you-got-to-be-kidding-me snarl or the don’t-be-fucking-ridiculous ridicule. She’d heard it so often from Kyle it could have been his mantra.

But unlike her ex, if Nicolai condemned her as absurd or silly, she would be an emotional Humpty Dumpty crushed into so many pieces she wouldn’t be able to put them back together again.

“The power went out with the storm,” he said gently.

As if to underscore his explanation, thunder boomed outside the window.

You know what thunder is, her mother’s voice whispered inside her head. It’s God and the angels bowling. When there’s lightning, God’s made a strike.

It was too much.

The phobic terror of the dark. Memories of Kyle and his cruelty. Nicolai rushing to her rescue.

She broke.

Tears scalded her eyelids then streamed down her cheeks in hot trails. Sobs rose up out of her soul and clawed past the blockade of pride to pour out in harsh, racking coughs.

“Oh sweetheart.”

Strong arms clamped around her, pulled her to a wide, naked chest. Her cheek stuck to his skin, her tears the glue that bonded them. Over her cries she caught the soothing murmurs he crooned. A hand that could easily frame her head smoothed down her hair and a tender kiss ghosted across her forehead.

Under His Wings CoverIf you were offered a TV or movie deal, which would you choose and why? Who would play your characters?

Because of the myths, the creatures, the battles…like 300 and Clash of the Titans had a drunken one-night-stand and birthed a baby!

I’d beg, plead and sling snot for Peter Jackson to direct a movie based on my book. And I’d cast Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen on Arrow) as Nicolai.

Just have him grow out his hair so it’d hang in his gorgeous face. And for Tamar I’d cast Rochelle Aytes.

Now I love men, but she could make me write a song about kissing a girl and liking it… I’m just saying… 😉

Pantser or plotter?

Plotter. I’m doing it right now as a matter-of-fact.

Chocolate or fruits?

Symphony chocolate bars are the way to my heart and any number of sexual positions that are illegal in about forty-six states.

Ideal getaway?

Other than my bathroom when the kids and hubby aren’t home? Then it’d definitely be a mountain cabin in Gatlinburg, TN. Solitude, beauty, fireplace and a hot tub.

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I would love to meet Queen Boudica. She was a queen, a warrior, a leader and a survivor. I can’t imagine the strength, will and fierce courage it required to survive being flogged, having your daughters raped and your land and freedom stolen. Not only did she survive, but she rallied her people and neighboring tribes to uprise against the Roman Empire. I would love to talk to her, find out what she said to herself and her daughters. Discover how she inspired a people to follow her into battle, and even death. I’d definitely love to pick her brain. Maybe introduce her to coffee, put away the swords and chariots as a precaution, and just talk.

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Make Me Sweat” by Avril Ashton

Apr 8

Erotic romance author, Avril Ashton, has taken over CABR for the day.

She’s talking about writing, reviews AND giving away a copy of her book, MAKE ME SWEAT 😀

There’s an R-rated excerpt below too.

ANSWER the RAFFLECOPTER question in the COMMENTS section, and be sure to complete the 2 other entries to increase your chances of winning 🙂

Make Me Sweat cover

A Little Bit Selfish?

As an author who puts my work out there, I love getting feedback; from readers, from other authors, from established review sites. It’s a validation, all the more so if it’s a great review. I like it, I smile and then I move on. There are the bad ones, too. Then the downright messed up opinions of people who lambaste you, your craft, your choices. They go in, they go hard and they make it personal.

It takes a certain kind of strength to take a breath, to shrug and move on. I can. I do. Some not so much. I can understand why they won’t or can’t understand why someone would go out their way to personally hit below the belt.

If you’re not familiar with me and my work, I write erotic romance, both hetero and GLBT. I leave nothing on the cutting room floor. I close no doors when it comes to the bedroom action and I go all out with mine. I do take it there…and beyond. It’s what I love to read, it’s what gets the creative juices flowing and it’s my preference. My books aren’t for the soft and pink. In my featured book, MAKE ME SWEAT, I include some things I’d never taken on before that point. That got me some pretty screwy emails, some telling me I’d gone too far. That I was writing porn.

I read those emails. Smiled. Then deleted them and moved on. Next.

That’s me and I think there’s nothing anyone can tell me, call me that I haven’t already told/called myself. Took that power away. There are those who aren’t as hard-assed as me, who haven’t yet figured out those opinions can’t dictate how you live your life or in this case, what you write.

You have to be a certain kind of selfish to be an author, I think. A certain kind of bold enough to say the harsh truth. That “this is what I do. This is what makes me happy. It’s my job, I love it. It’s mine. Not yours. I do it for me. Not for you.”

Sure they’d gasp and clutch at their pearls. You can’t possibly mean that. After all, you write and if you want to be successful at it, people need to buy and read. We’d love that. Really. Buy it. Read it. Give your opinions. We’d love all that. What we can’t allow is to be torn down, made to doubt ourselves enough that we’d want to quit, give it all up because of harsh words.

Everyone will not love the genres/themes I write. Hell, many won’t like it. I’m cool with that. I’m cool with bad reviews and harsh words. Many aren’t me. They throw their hands up and want to surrender. There has to be a point where we put our chin up and say back off, I do what pleases me. I’d love it if you all worshipped my books, hung on to every word I write. That won’t happen. I accept that.

Just as you’ll have to accept I write for me. First and foremost. It pleases me. I’m not much into pleasing all…just one. Works for me.

Make Me Sweat cover

R-rated excerpt from MAKE ME SWEAT:

“What do you want from me, Mr. Dakota?”

“You know who I am?” Dak removed his jacket and flung it on to the couch at the far side of the room.

Her eyes followed the movement. “Everyone knows who Ian Dakota is, but you haven’t answered my question.” She tilted her head, staring at him with green eyes. “What do you want?”

She laughed. The low, husky sound hardened his cock and moistened the tip. Dak bit back a groan. Shit.

“Do you think I’m for sale, Mr. Dakota?” She asked the question like one would ask the time of day.

“Not at all,” he rushed to assure her. “I just think you want me as much as I want you.”

She blinked, a low sweep of long lashes, and got to her feet. “You think so, huh?” At the window, she stared down at the street. Dak caressed her smooth back with his gaze. He salivated for a taste of her creamy skin and those gorgeous tattoos.

Eyes glued to the activity on the street below, she asked, “If I told you to make me come right now using only your fingers, what would you say?”

His cock jerked. “Take off your dress.”

The black, backless number pooled at her ankles, circling the gold heels. Dak watched, mouth dry, cock aching, as she pushed her front onto the window. Palms flat against the glass, she widened her stance.

A step forward brought him to her, his front inches from her back. He smoothed a trembling hand from the nape of her neck to the twin dimples above her ass, then traced the flight of the stars etched there.

She sighed and leaned into his touch. Dak wanted to kiss her skin, lick those stars with his tongue, he wanted to taste her. Hell he wanted. Period. Instead, he forced his galloping pulse to calm, forced his breath to steady. Forced his need to wait.

Something he’d never done.

He circled the curve of her ass with one hand, the other he brought around to cup a heavy breast, thumbing the nipple. A moan rose from her. She bowed her head.

“Tell me your name.” He pulled a nipple and slid a finger down the crack of her ass. She panted. “Tell me.”

“Ever. My name’s Ever.”

Ever Marcille, to be precise. He put his lips to her ear and trailed his hand from her breast to her flat stomach. “Ever, I want to hear you scream.”

“Yeah?” Her body trembled. “You and me both.”

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Beyond The Sun” by Sandra Bischoff

Apr 5

Paranormal romance fans, I’d like to introduce you to debut author, Sandra Bischoff   🙂

Read on to find out how you could WIN her book, BEYOND THE SUN, from Bayou Brew Publishing.
beyond-the-sun cover

Sandra, tell us about your debut novel, BEYOND THE SUN, in 120 characters or less.

BEYOND THE SUN is a Paranormal Romance loosely based on Camelot full of murder, mayhem and of course romance.

I understand BTS evolved from a short story you posted on a social networking site. How did you make the leap from there to published novelist?

It did not happen overnight. This book took me over a year to write the first time. I think I revised it over a dozen times until it was finally picked up by Bayou Brew Publishing. The whole process lasted about seven years.

Kudos to you on sticking with it Sandra  🙂

Did you struggle to write a particular scene? Why?

I can’t remember any one scene being a struggle. Scenes that involved fighting or hand to hand combat usually take me longer to write only because I have to actually go through the motions to see or feel how it would play out.

Here’s an example:

The creak of leather allowed him to pinpoint the location of his intruder. Jared slowly wrapped his fingers around the wooden staff resting on the floor before him and waited.

Come to Papa, asshole.

The air in the room stirred. Jared smirked as a leather duster slid into view on the floor in front of him. His attacker was trying to throw him off. Did they honestly think he would fall for such a lame trick…again? He took nothing for what it seemed when dealing with vampires. No, Jared relied on his honed senses to keep his head on his shoulders when faced with a fight.

A breeze brushed over his arms. He brought his weapon up on his left side, blocking his attacker’s strike. The wooden staffs cracked together. Jared swung around, keeping their weapons locked together until he fell into a ready stance.

The vampire backed up a step and twirled the staff at his side. He circled around slowly, just out of striking distance. Jared kept a wary eye trained on the male; the pointed end of his staff aimed at his assailant’s chest.

Before he could blink, the vamp advanced and drove him back. Jared met each advancing blow with a block. He sensed the wall at his back and launched to the side, rolling away before he was cornered. He made a full sweep of the floor with his staff, catching his opponent’s foot and knocking him onto the ground. Taking advantage of the momentary lapse, Jared grabbed the other man’s weapon, breaking his hold and pinning him to the floor.

“Yield.” Jared towered over the vampire and leaned into the staff on his attacker’s neck.

His assailant let out a raspy laugh. He grabbed Jared’s leg and pulled it out from under him. He landed on his ass. The staff clattered to the ground. The vamp spun away from him, but not before giving Jared a knock on the back of the head with his staff. Snarling, Jared retrieved his weapon and prepared for the next attack.

If you were offered a TV or movie deal, which would you choose? Who would play your characters?

I would definitely go with a movie deal. Since I’ve only done one book so far, I don’t see a TV series coming from this particular book on its own.

Casting for me is a piece of cake, Mike Vogel is my Jared, always has been, Alexandra would be Jaime Murray, Zephyr is Oliver Martinez, Abs definitely is Agnes Brukner, Semiramis is Juliana Margulies, and last but not least, Lance Du Lace would be cast as Jensen Ackles.

I’m liking those choices 🙂

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Battered Hearts” series by Kele Moon

Apr 4

Star Crossed coverKele Moon is on CABR today!

(Can you tell I’m excited? LOL)

Kele is here to tell us about her erotic contemporary romance series, BATTERED HEARTS, from Loose Id.

If you enjoy passionate romance filled with obstacles the h/H DO overcome, and featuring some seriously hot Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters, then this is the series for you. 🙂

TWO lucky visitors to CABR will each win a book in the series, so be sure to POST A COMMENT and complete the RAFFLECOPTER GIVEAWAY.

Using 120 characters or less (a la Twitter), tell us about your BATTERED HEARTS series.

The Battered Hearts books are about a group of MMA tough guys and the women who love them. Steamy. Emotional. Exciting.

How does that work? But then of course, after 5 fun tales of UFC fighters LOL! Then there will be Nova. . . Who doesn’t fit into a box and conforms to no one 😀

What inspired you to write these amazing, strong characters who’ve each suffered in their own way?

I like fighters. There’s something very compelling about men who go into a cage to get beat up every day and then come back asking for more.

I enjoy exploring what drives certain people to do and be certain things and the world of MMA was a wide open playing field for someone like me who loves tortured heroes 😀

Did you struggle to write a particular scene in book 1 or 2? Or would this question apply to Wyatt’s book, which is still a WIP?

Actually, the Romeo and Jules’s first date scene from STAR CROSSED was very difficult. I didn’t realize until I started writing it that I had never written a sex scene where the two characters had just met. . . All my stories up until that point had been friends to lovers stories in one way or another.

I thought I would NEVER finish that date/sex scene!! And funny enough I get a lot of positive feedback on it. . . LOL! Which is nice considering how much time I spent ripping my hair out over it.

Excerpt from STAR CROSSED:

She huffed indignantly as he pushed the door open. “I’m talking to you.”

“I heard you.”

“You genuinely disappointed me.” She sounded stricken as she followed behind him. “I thought you were different from the fellas I’m used to, but it turns out you’re the same and—” Romeo pushed the door closed behind her, and Jules turned when it clicked shut. “What’re you doing?”

Romeo stepped into her personal space and then leaned forward to breathe her in. The perfume she wore was dark and seductive rather than sweet and floral like most women wore. Jesus, this woman even smelled perfect.

When Romeo moved to kiss her, she turned her head petulantly. Her breathing was shallow, her body tense, but she obviously wasn’t inclined to give in—yet.

He bent down and whispered against the smooth line of her throat, “I didn’t pay for dinner to be a chauvinist. I did it because I enjoyed your company, and I felt like you were worth it. Is that so bad?”

Jules appeared unmoved by his impassioned plea. “You think you’re charming.”

“Sometimes,” Romeo admitted, a smile tugging at his lips. “But it’s still the truth. I wanna kiss you, Juliet. Look at me.”

“No.” Jules’s voice was a low rasp, sounding like the denial hurt. “Maybe this is a mistake. I thought about it while I was walking up here. This is all wrong and—”

She was going to be stubborn, so Romeo took the initiative and cupped her face in both his large hands. He forced her to turn to him and studied her stunning features for one breathless moment. Her body tightened defensively, but she didn’t fight him as only the sound of their labored breathing filled the air. Jules’s eyes were wide, her cheeks more flushed than ever. Then she licked her full, lush bottom lip in a quick swipe of anticipation.

That was all the invitation he needed.

Romeo leaned down and kissed her before she got a chance to think about things any more than she already had. Jules moaned in response and arched into him. Her lips parted to his, soft and hungry for more. Romeo knew he was already too far gone as he deepened the kiss and greedily took what she was offering.

Has the response to this series surprised you in any way?

It has! Pleasantly so . . . It was a series I started on a whim when I had an idea about a big, badass fighter and a piece of pie. LOL!

But it’s grown out into something I’m really excited to be writing. . . I especially love the spin on the mafia boys Chuito, Tino and Nova whose stories are going to make up the backend of the series!

Defying the Odds coverIf you were offered a TV or movie deal for BATTERED HEARTS, which would you choose? Who would play your characters?

I would probably choose TV just because I know how the story is going to unfold in the long run. . . Too much for movies. . . Though I wouldn’t mind see Star Crossed on the big screen.

I don’t usually have actual actors in mind when I write. . . But for this series I have found a few that match.

Clay looks a lot like Joe Manganiello in my mind, which is funny because he is Italian. I know a lot of people think of Romeo when they see him, but I dunno, that’s just how I always pictured Clay.

And hands down, Chris Hemsworth as Wyatt. I saw a picture of him once with short hair, wearing flannel and I was like. . . OMG! It’s Wyatt!!

Here’s some of the pics from that shoot. . . What’d you think? Wyatt?

Other than that. . . I’m still looking 😀 And I’m always open to suggestions!

Kele Moon pic

Pantser or plotter?

100% Pantser!

Dogs or cats?

I like both. . . I own neither. I have my hands full with three kids. LOL!

Chocolate or fruits?

Ideal getaway?

The beach!! Doesn’t even matter where. . . I grew up on an island. The ocean feeds my soul.

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it it be and why?

It’s a three way tie between my favorite authors Pat Conroy, JK Rowling and Rick Riordan 😀

Thanks for stopping by Kele.  🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed interviewing you. Loved the actors you’ve selected to play the men and women in BATTERED HEARTS.

Hopefully we really do get to see your books brought to life one day 🙂

Beyond The Page & Giveaway: “Heir To A Desert Legacy” by Maisey Yates

Apr 2

Maisey Yates  is on CABR today to tell us about her latest category romance, HEIR TO A DESERT LEGACY.

Post a comment and complete the rafflecopter below to win your very own eBook 🙂

HTADL hp cover

HTADL is, in so many ways, about people who are completely different on the surface, coming together for the good of a child.

A theoretical physicist heroine and a scarred sheikh don’t seem to have a lot in common.

But Chloe and Sayid find a connection that runs deep, and that connection helps them heal from their past pain…and find love!

How did you come up with the idea for this book?

In kind of a funny way. My editor asked if I would be interested in writing a duet that had a secret baby theme. And I thought…sure.

Then I started thinking of ways to spin that secret baby theme…I thought of a secret surrogate, an heir that was presumed dead and a man desperate to find out if the child might have lived…and there you have it!

Tell us about the sequel, Heir To A Dark Inheritance.

HTADI also has a ‘secret baby’ theme. The hero Alik, finds out he has a child from a one night stand, and the heroine, Jada, is in the process of adopting that child.

Ideal vacation?

With the family? Disneyland. We did that this Summer and it was incredible. With my husband only? We’re planning on Italy for our 10th anniversary. Only two years left to wait!

Funniest fan interaction?

I had a fan approach me at a signing who was very nervous and kind of shaky. It was funny because that’s how *I* feel when faced with fans. LOL

Favourite snack while writing?

Coffee and anything sweet. I’m horrible!

If you could spend time with any of your characters, who would you choose and why?

That’s tough. I think shopping with Jessica from At His Majesty’s Request, Chloe from Heir to a Desert Legacy (but she would need help, because she’s inept in that area!) and Paige from Her Little White Lie would be a lot of fun.
