Welcome to CABR Whitney 🙂
Is WHAT HAPPENS IN IRELAND your debut novel?
Yes, it certainly is.
Tell us about the plot.
Kate Barrow travels to Ireland to take on a co-managing position on a Thoroughbred stud. Whilst in Dublin, she meets a charming Irishman who later reveals himself to be her boss.
Untrusting of Jack and still habouring the sting of an ex-boyfriends betrayal, Kate is determined to have nothing to do with Jack.
But Jack’s fascinated by Kate and has never been one to pass up a challenge. Kate soon learns that the Irish charm is hard to resist, the question is, can Jack earn her trust and her heart?
What inspired you to write this book? A love of horses and Ireland perhaps? 🙂
Definitely. I have always been a lover of horses. Don’t know where I got it from but I was always horse-mad. And the inspiration for my novel came to me as a result of planning my trip to Ireland.
I was so excited to finally being able to travel there, but I had a two year long wait! So, to pass the time, I wrote my Irish series.
How cool 🙂
Did you struggle to put down words when it came to a particular scene in the book?
Not with the draft. It was more the re-writes. As a writer, you have to learn to let go of certain scenes and ideas if they don’t end up working. It’s hard, as I think it’s key to stay as close to the original story as possible (I’m a spur-of-the-moment kind of girl), but after some thought, you see the benefits of changes. J
Did you find inspiration from particular songs/albums while writing?
I find inspiration in everything haha. I love U2, Snow Patrol and the Celtic Women. But I guess it depended on my mood and the scene.
Sometimes, I’d listen to Michael Bublé and Florence and the Machine. I have a really broad taste in music.
If your were offered a TV or movie deal, which would you choose and why? Who would play your characters?
Movie. For sure. I don’t think my novels would work as a TV show. Haha, gosh, I don’t know if I could choose. Based on who I like to see on screen I’d have Jack played by Gerard Butler (because he’s cheeky) and Kate… I love Scarlett Johansson.
If you could be someone from history for a day, living or dead, who would it it be and why?
I’d love to take a walk in Mary Wollstonecraft’s shoes. She had such an interesting life and I’d find her thoughts intriguing.
