Kay David, author of TEXAS HOLD EM, recently hosted Texas ACES’ Timothy Santos and Sheriff Rose Renwick when they visited Houston.

Timothy and Rose talked about having kids and possible trouble ahead for a member of  the Smokin’ ACES biker gang (an elite team of undercover Rangers).

Scroll down to enjoy a transcript of their chat & be sure to enter the giveaway 🙂

Texas Hold 'Em (853x1280)

Author, Kay David:  I’m really glad you guys decided to come to Houston and stay with a little bit.  I bet you’ll really enjoy the big city. This is a beautiful hotel.  I stayed here on my honeymoon, you know.  It’s called the Hotel ZaZa.

Sheriff, Rose Renwick: I love West Texas, but I wanted to shop in a real store, go to a real restaurant, and stay in a real hotel.  It’s been so long since I’ve been anywhere this exciting.

Ranger, Timothy Santos: Rio County’s the most dangerous part of the country right now.  What in the hell do you think is ‘exciting?’

Rose:  Oh, good grief, Santos, you know what I mean.  Not that kind of exciting.  I mean fun exciting.

Santos: (grinning) Well, I have to admit that all those things, except for the shopping part, sound pretty good to me, too.  I’ve been undercover for so long, I’ve forgotten how to shave, much less act like a lawman instead of a bad ass biker.

Kay: So where are you going?

Rose:  Well, the first place we’re hitting is the Galleria.  I haven’t worn anything but a uniform for two years. I want something to wear that makes me feel like I feel when I’m in Santos’s arms.

Santos: (grinning even broader) If you’re in my arms, you aren’t gonna be wearing anything at all.

Rose: (playfully hits him on the arm with a fist) I’m going to Neiman-Marcus, and I’m buying the fanciest dress I can find.  And you’re paying for it.  It’s the least you can do.

Santos:  You’re right.  I owe you.  And not just for what I put you through, but what’s ahead of us as well.

Kay: (surprised) Ahead of you?

Rose: (gives a sly look) I’ll make the wedding as painless as I can.  And once it’s over, we’ll go straight to the beach, lay in the sand, and listen to the waves.

Santos: I’m not sure about that honeymoon business.  I’m worried about ACES and where we’re going from here.  You and I may have worked out our situation, but ACES still has a lot of work to do.

Rose: (frowning) They’ll get it done, Santos.  They always do.

Santos: I’m not so sure . (Shakes his head).  I have a feeling we’ve only begun this fight.

Kay: What do mean?  Is something happening I don’t know about—

Santos: My team’s getting restless.  It feels like a storm’s coming, and they can smell the lightning.  Especially Jessie.  I’m worried about her.  And for her.

Kay: (eyebrows knit) Hey, Jessie Delacourt’s a great character.  I can’t do anything to her—

Rose: I agree with Kay.  Jessie’s one of your best agents, Santos.   She can hold her own.  What makes you think she might in danger?

Santos: I can feel it (eyes go dark) And I’ve been right about this kind of thing before, too.   I think someone else might be involved, as well.

Kay: Another agent? What are you talking about?

Santos: (glances at Rose, ignores Kay) I think it’s the deputy, King Landry.  Something tells me that man’s got some secrets.

Kay: Now, just a minute.  I haven’t written anything like that for King.  You can’t be telling me what to write.  These are my characters.

Rose: (ignoring Kay, talking to Santos) King’s got secrets?  Not to use a cliché or anything, but isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?

Santos: You know all my secrets now. But I’m telling you, King Landry is hiding something.  And when we find out what it is, everyone’s going to be shocked.

Kay: (takes deep breath) The sequel to TEXAS HOLD ‘EM, FOLLOW THE COWBOY, isn’t coming out until November, so let’s just get back on track here.

There is one question a fan wanted me to ask you two.  If we turned TEXAS HOLD’EM into a movie, who do you see acting your parts?

Rose: That’s easy.  Haven’t you seen the biker on the cover of TEXAS HOLD’EM.  I’d get him to play Santos.  Don’t have a clue who he really is, but that’s Santos, to a T.

Texas Hold 'Em (853x1280)

Kay: (looks at Santos) What about Rose?  Who would play her?

Santos: Kinda Claire Dane-ish.  A cross between her and Gwyneth Paltrow but prettier, of course.

Kay: I really appreciate you two talking to me—

Rose: Wait… We’re not finished here, are we?  I want to ask a couple of questions of my own.

Kay: (caught off-guard) Well… okay, I guess.

Rose: (turning to Santos) I want you to look in your crystal ball and tell me if our marriage will last.

Santos:  (smiling again) Of course it will, and you know that. We’ve faced too much to let anything come between us now.

Rose: Children?

Santos: At least three.  All girls. That’s what my crystal ball says.

Rose: (lifts eyebrows) Three college degrees?  Three cars?  Three weddings? Are you sure?

Santos: Absolutely.

Rose: Where do we live while all these children are being raised?

Santos: On my ranch, of course.

Rose: Does that mean you’ll settle down and find a regular job?

Kay: Wait!  You can’t leave Smokin’ ACES.  I need you—

Santos: I’m not going anywhere.  I’ll always be an ACE.  But we’ll have to elect a new president at some point. Maybe a new agent we haven’t even met yet. I hope it’ll be a joint decision by all involved. Very civilized.

Rose: (shaking her head) ACES?  Civilized?  Those two words don’t go together.

Santos: Elections will be held, that’s all I’m saying.  And someone new will take over the reins.  There’s no shortage of bad guys. The good fight will always continue.

Rose: Am I still the sheriff of Rio County in this future you see?

Kay: Do you want to be?

Rose: (thoughtfully) I think I do, actually.  It’s in my blood.  But eventually one of those three daughters wins over me, and she becomes the sheriff.

Santos: I think that sums up just about everything, except for one tiny detail.

Kay: Would that be where we should go for dinner? Houston has some fabulous restaurants—

Santos: (looking at Rose and nowhere else, a small secret smile lifting the corners of his mouth) That’s not exactly what I had in mind.

Rose: (nodding toward the big bed in their hotel room) I think we need to try that out before we hit Neiman-Marcus. (big fake yawn) I could really use a nap.

Kay: Ummm.  Maybe I should just let you guys, uh, rest for a bit?

Santos and Rose: (in unison as door closes) See you later, Kay.

Blurb for TEXAS HOLD ‘EM:

Texas Hold 'Em (853x1280)

Part law enforcement. Part criminal. And all deliciously bad…

Working undercover as part of an elite team of Rangers disguised as the Smokin’ ACES biker gang, Timothy Santos walks the thin line between law-enforcer and law-breaker.

With one of his informants missing—and possibly dead—at the hands of vicious cartel leader El Brujo, Santos will do whatever it takes to find justice. Even if it means heading to Rio County to look up his former lover…who’s not only the sheriff, but Santos’s only lead.

Rose Renwick is not happy to see Santos. In the past, their chemistry had been explosive—raw, sensual, and unforgettable—but she’d been burned. Now Santos is back in town, looking just as lethal and as irresistible as she remembered.

But Santos wants something from her—and suddenly Rose’s family is in danger and her town is under attack. The only way out is to trust the one man she swore never to trust again. Ante up…

Those earrings are so cute!! I’ve read TEXAS HOLD ‘EM and it was so much fun to see Rose and Santos again. But they’ve got to have at least one boy to distract them from their daughters–otherwise those poor girls will never be allowed to go anywhere!

  • Kay David says:

    Hi, Heather!
You’re absolutely right. And you should know! Maybe Rose and Santos will have a surprise baby after all the daughters grow up! You never know.

  • Lori Meehan says:

Lori-Thanks for the compliment. I wrote for Harlequin Superromance for years but now I’ve seen the light and I’ve gone digital! I love writing ebooks for Entangled Suspense and feel that digital content is really the best way now to get my stories to my readers. It’s faster, it’s easier, and it helps our environment, too. Visit my website at Kaydavid.com and let me know what you think after you read it!

  • Ruth Ayres says:
