Welcome to CABR Susan.

Thx for having me at CABR, Sasha!

Who hasn’t had a case of bad judgement when it comes to a relationship? Having a heroine who’s struggling with this makes for a very interesting love story. Did you find yourself connecting more to Kristen than some of your other heroines because of this?

Actually, I struggled a lot with Kristen because she was so (understandably) jaded by her ex-boyfriend’s betrayal. Not only did she need to learn to trust men again–especially a certain exceptionally sweet hottie!–but she had to rebuild her confidence. In the end, she became a stronger person for what she’d been through though. 🙂

Did Ethan have you rubbing your hands in glee once you realised he was interested in more than friendship with Kristen?

Definitely! I loved that he was smart about it, too, patiently waiting until she was ready for him. <3

SAVE THE DATE is part of the Better Date Than Never series. Which book is this and should the series be read in order?

Save the Date is #4 in the series. The books stand alone, so they can be read in any order.

Tell us about the most difficult scene to write/edit in STD

Definitely the restaurant scene with Kristen and her best buds. Rach was feeling insecure that her boyfriend, Noah, was having dinner with his ex. Who WORSE to ask than Kristen who’d recently found out her boyfriend was married? Since Rach felt desperate, she asks Kristen for her advice and gets a very jaded response – lol.

This was an especially tough scene to write, because I wanted it to be authentic. In doing research for my story, I asked many friends how they’d feel about their boyfriend/hubby having dinner with his ex and the majority were NOT okay with it. When I asked why, the answer that had me laughing the most was: “Because they’ve seen each other naked.”

Naturally, that train of thought HAD to end up in my book.

I reached across the table, and put my hand over hers. “You said his ex is coming to Sac for work, but why is that making you feel threatened in your relationship?”

Her lower lip trembled. “Because she’s gorgeous? And she’s seen my boyfriend naked? Clearly, she’s realized what she lost and wants to get him back.”

Ellen’s mouth formed an O. “Don’t jump to conclusions, sweetie. Noah’s trustworthy.”

I was about to agree that Noah was faithful, but I’d thought the same thing about Jake. So, I closed my mouth and looked away.

Rach’s mouth thinned, and she turned to me. “What, Kristen? You think he’s hiding something? Should I talk to him about it? Tell him how insecure I feel?”

“Well . . .” My initial reaction was to suggest that exactly, opening up and talking to him about her concerns. But, then again, it’s not like my bonehead method of thinking had saved me from heartbreak. I scratched my temple, wondering what I’d do in her situation. “If I’d run a background check on Jake before dating him, I would’ve known his marital status up front.”

What were your favourite moments between Kristen and Ethan?

Every time Kristen let her walls down, and Ethan was able to inch closer to her heart. 🙂

Thanks for the fun chat about Save the Date. I love Kristen, and hope you will, too. Happy reading!!

Kristen knows men hide things. Case in point, her last boyfriend turned out to be married. Just like anyone else, Kristen is devastated. However, since Kristen evaluates people for a living, her ex’s duplicity has her searching for a new career as well as swearing off men.

Touring history museums with her sexy friend Ethan doesn’t count, because he has a girlfriend, and has only shown friendly interest in Kristen. He even helps with her career counseling tasks. Although Kristen has a secret crush on Ethan, spending time with him is safe. Until she discovers he’s actually single. Gasp. And now he’s flirting with her, too.

Suddenly, Ethan is way too dangerous. Not to mention tempting. Sure, he seems like sixty shades of perfect, but how’s a girl with bad judgment supposed to detect what skeletons he has in his closet?
