Blurb:

Widowed rancher Cole Forrester is all about running his family’s ranch and guarding his heart. The last thing he’s looking for is love, but when his little sister can’t make it home to handle some of her wedding details, he’s forced to entertain the event planner, Melanie Simms.

.

Melanie is everything he’s not even remotely interested in: she’s high-society, complicated, and high maintenance. But when he’s stranded with her at his remote cabin in the Colorado mountains, he realizes he’s seriously underestimated her.

.

She’s hiding something about her past from him, but despite everything, he finds himself falling for the last woman he ever expected, and the first woman to make him want to give his heart and risk everything…

Victoria James’ introduction to her TEMPTATION THURSDAYS excerpt from “The Rancher’s Second Chance”:

After an evening alone together, while stranded at Cole’s remote cabin, tension builds. Cole sees an entirely new side to Melanie and he finds himself aware of her on so many different levels. And the sexual sparks that fly between them are too tempting to ignore…

.

EXCERPT:

Every single time she’d shoot him a look or give him some smart-ass retort, he’d wanted to pull her into him, feel the curves he’d tried desperately not to notice. The entire evening with her had been an excruciating lesson in self-deprivation, the icing on the cake being having her lingerie on display.

Because at that moment the only thing he could think of was how she’d fill out the garments, how he’d like to be the one to help her back into them and then out of them. And the image of her, of them together, had played over and over again.

“Mel,” he whispered against her hair. Despite the snow, the wind, her hair smelled like sunshine, still silky, soft. He almost thought she was going to push him away, but instead she turned into him. Her soft breasts pressed against his chest, and everything inside him stopped for a moment.

What the hell was he doing? He couldn’t just sleep with Melanie. She wasn’t just any woman. She would be the first woman since Sarah, and if he were completely honest with himself, there were feelings. Feelings he wasn’t exactly looking for, but were undeniable.

He took her face in his hands, feeling the softness, reveling in it. The longing in her eyes stirred something in his gut, something that went beyond lust, beyond missing a woman. He stared at her, his thumb tracing the smooth skin of her cheek. He wanted to taste her; more than anything he wanted to taste Melanie.

He slowly bent over, bracing his forearms on the bed, on either side of her. He could see the rapid movement of her pulse at the base of her throat. He hovered in that moment, reveling in the strength of his desire for her, in the pleasure of wanting her.

“Cole,” she whispered.

“Yeah.”

“Are you going to kiss me, or make me beg?”

His heart smashed against his rib cage. “Beg? Darling, I’d never make you beg. You want me, you got me,” he said and lowered his head.

She met him halfway.

Victoria James pictureABOUT THE AUTHOR:

I always knew I wanted to be a writer and in grade five, I penned my first story, bound it (with staples and a cardboard cover), and did all the illustrations myself. Luckily, this book will never see the light of day again.

In high school I fell in love with historical romance and then contemporary romance.  After graduating from university with an English Literature degree, I married my own hero, pursued a degree in Interior Design and then opened my own business.

After the birth of our first child, I knew it was time to fulfill the dream of writing romantic fiction.  I’m a hopeless romantic who is living my dream, penning happily-ever-after’s for my characters in between managing kids and the family business.

Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but I’m quite content living in suburbia with my husband, our two young children, and very bad cat.
