Elli Morenelli has lived through a nightmare and now is working on getting her dream…

.

Her life could have been over with her breast cancer diagnosis, but Elli had fought and won. Now she is ready to fight for other women facing the same nightmare, but to do so she is going to need money. And she is going to need it fast.

Fortunately, Elli finds herself with half ownership of a Louisiana plantation. A twisted inheritance has set her up with an interesting future. Unfortunately, Elli no longer believes in planning a future, she just wants to take the money and run.

.

Ben Bienvenu wants nothing to do with the woman from California who is certain to turn his world upside down. But the conditions of the will that left the property to both of them doesn’t give him much choice. Not if he wants to keep the property that’s been in his family for generations.

.

A snobby diva rental dog, an impossible will, a nosy Bienvenu family, a distracting Mardi Gras season and a man who thinks he is protecting his son by standing his ground against her… Elli knows that trying to find common ground with this man known as the Cajun Dog Whisperer is going to be an uphill battle.

.

Two broken people.
Both in need of a Second Chance….

Welcome to Caribbean Accent Book Reviews, Tina 🙂

I’m so excited that you invited me to visit with you and your followers here on Caribbean Accent Book Reviews. I’ve got a steamy mug of coffee in hand as I sit at the kitchen table, ready for our chat. I’m a happy lady. Thank You.

.

.

How would you describe your book using 10 – 20 words?

Dogs, deals, wills, nosy Bienvenues and stubborn Cajun Ben Bienvenu…Elli must conquer all for hope, love and a second chance. 2) What inspired you to write this book? It really isn’t what inspired me, but who inspired me. And, the who isn’t singular.

I was inspired by the people who fought cancer alongside of me as I battled Stage 3 breast cancer. I listened to their stories of fear and hope while they battled for their lives and afterwards, I listened to their stories of fear and hope while they navigated to redirect their lives. I had no idea that there would be such strong emotions attached to that wonderful, difficult, joyful and fearful time after the cancer treatment ends and a renewed life begins.

This time is where I found and set Elli’s story.

She is a breast cancer survivor who is starting her life over again. So, you see, having these brave, thought provoking people share their experiences with me, inspired me…as did the medical team who was so empathetic and my author pals, Cherry Adair and Stella Barcelona, who were so patient (yet, pushed me to keep writing!).

.

.

How has your life changed since the book was published?

I am now being approached by lovely people who want to share their personal breast cancer journey with me. Sometimes I meet a family member or a dear friend of someone battling BC. Sometimes a survivor or someone receiving treatment or preparing for surgery wants to speak with me. I am so honored and humbled that they allow me into their lives. It touches me profoundly.

To be honest, because I had breast cancer, it is also very difficult for me, too. I feel deeply for them. I cry inside for their pain, but I also celebrate their triumphs. It renews how right it was for me to donate all ELLI, a Second Chance Novel proceeds to help women in the fight against breast cancer.

So buy the book and buy a second copy for your sister, mother, daughter…or the stranger in the produce aisle at the supermarket!

.

.

What’s next for you?

JEWELL. Jewell and Beau’s story is next. I’m happy to say that most of the same crazy, endearing, interfering Bienvenu family members are returning in this story that is once again set on the beautiful Sugar Mill Plantation. It will be released at the end of 2014.

Tell us about your favourite moment from ELLI

Tough one…I have a lot of favorite moments (I bet all authors say that!) but this one is a sweet, special one when Ben and Elli have a sort of truce moment. They have been adversaries because they want hugely different things for the plantation they inherited together.

Elli wants to sell Sugar Mill plantation to save her foundation that is on the verge of financial ruin and Ben wants to keep it because it has been a family legacy for over 200 years. Tante Izzy, Ben’s very Cajun aunt, is in this scene, too. I love when she is on the page!

.

EXCERPT:

Ben walked to Tante Izzy and kissed her on top of her head. “Mind your own business.”

He walked to a coffeepot on a small cart near his desk.

“All da Bienvenues are my business. I’m da oldest, so dat makes me da matriarch.”

“I thought that made you queen,” Ben teased.

“I waz queen before I was da oldest. I waz born dat way.” Elli laughed and looked at Ben, who was smiling. He glanced at her and something nice and friendly passed between them. Ben’s eyes didn’t look hostile, angry, or resigned. He looked at her like a man who liked the woman he saw. Elli’s heart began to thud. If Tante Izzy hadn’t been around, she would have kissed him soundly on his beautiful mouth and thanked him for it. The pressure of dealing with a man who hated her was very difficult. This was much better.

“Mon dieu. Youz two are circlin’ the truth like buzzards spottin’ road kill.” Tante Izzy rolled her eyes and Ben frowned. Elli looked at her feet. “I’m goin’ to a Traiteur and get some love juice to make youz stop fightin’ what youz’ want.” “Traiteur?” Elli said, massacring the Cajun word by putting the accent on the beginning instead of at the end of the word.

“Witch doctor,” Ben clarified.

“No. She’s a Cajun healer.” Tante Izzy looked at Elli. “Don’t listen to him, Traiteurs are holy peoples. She got rid of my coup de soliel ‘bout four years ago.”

“She had sunstroke,” Ben translated for Elli.

“And she healed Ruby of da scars on her back from la mal anglais.”

Elli looked at Ben waiting for the translation. “The shingles.”

Elli nodded. “Impressive.” She stood and walked to the door . She had a full day ahead, and she didn’t have time for this interesting but useless conversation. Thank you for your interest in Ben and me. We don’t need a tray-tour. We aren’t circling anything like buzzards. We are just trying to find a way to deal with an impossible will…Ben’s and the one Rosa left us.”

Tante Izzy snorted. “I’m no fool, but it sounds like youz are.”

Elli turned to Ben and shrugged. He shrugged back at her. “I’ve got to get back to the film crew before they paint something else pink. Call me if Joey wants to hang out with me again.” She turned to Tante Izzy. “You can come with me now if you want. I’ll drive my car. Leave your truck here.”

“You’z so bossy sometime,” Tante Izzy complained. “ I don’t know if I want to get you da love potion.”

“Good I don’t want it.”
