Top Pick large image

Review: Kele Moon has outdone herself in THE SLAYER (Untamed Hearts #2), and that’s saying a lot because THE VIPER (Untamed Hearts #1) built on the powerful story lines, strong characters, raw emotions and hot sex we’ve come to know in the Battered Hearts series.

Beyond The Page & $20 iTunes Gift Card: “Cipher (The Cipher Series)” by Cindi Madsen

YA fans I have a treat for you 🙂

Cindi Madsen is celebrating the release of her new novel, CIPHER, with a rafflecopter Giveaway.

POST A COMMENT to win a $20 iTunes Gift Card and Paramore Bracelet.

Cipher official coverBlurb:

Summer Davis sees deaths before they happen. She attempts to live a normal life by focusing on the dance team and her quarterback boyfriend. But then the way-too-cheery Angel of Death shows up and tells her she’s a Cipher—a person chosen to help people who are going to die resolve problems with their loved ones. Ashlyn Moore, one of Summer’s classmates, is going to die, and she needs Summer’s help before that happens.

It’s nearly impossible to get through to Ashlyn, who surrounds herself with chess nerds and geeks and makes it clear she doesn’t want to be friends. Desperate to complete her Cipher task before it’s too late, Summer turns to Troy, the guy who’s always been there for her and one of the few people she can trust. With his help, she makes progress. In fact, the closer she gets to Ashlyn and her friends, the more she feels like she’s finally found where she belongs.

As the clock starts running down on Ashlyn’s life, Summer decides to change her objective. She’s going to save her new friend before it’s too late—even if it means messing with fate.

CABR: Why did you decide to write a Cipher YA story?

CM: A big part of CIPHER is Summer realizing that she’s stopped being who she is. Now she’s supposed to help other people before they die and she feels like a mess. She’s got to work through some of the usual teen issues and deal with peer pressure and pressure from her boyfriend as she’s trying to work it out. I love writing YA for that reason. It’s when so much of your life is changing.

Cindi Madsen pictureABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Cindi Madsen sits at her computer every chance she gets, plotting revising, and falling in love with her characters. Sometimes it makes her a crazy person. Without it, she’d be even crazier.

She has way too many shoes, but can always find a reason to buy a new pretty pair, especially if they’re sparkly, colorful, or super tall. She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long.

Cindi lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.

Beyond The Page: “Yours at Midnight” by Robin Bielman

Jan 30

YAM coverI’m excited to chat with Quinn Sobel on CABR today. 🙂

He’s the hero from Robin Bielman‘s book “Yours at Midnight“, an Ever After novel from Entangled Publishing.

“Yours at Midnight: synopsis: Lyric Whetsone only had eyes for Quinn Sobel’s brother Oliver, until a car crash took Oliver’s life on New Year’s Eve. Then, a moment of shared grief between Quinn and Lyric became something more impassioned, something that frightened Quinn so much he ran from Lyric’s bed and her life, disappearing for four long years.

Now Quinn’s back for another New Year’s Eve, struggling for closure, desperate to leave his grief in the past and make amends with the girl of his dreams.

But Lyric has a secret–one that could drive Quinn from her life forever. Will Quinn run away from the love and acceptance he’s always wanted…or will he claim his New Year’s kiss and make her his at midnight?

Robin here ~ thanks so much for having Quinn visit today, Sasha! I’m just going to make myself comfortable over here on this lounge chair and take in the ocean. It’s so gorgeous! I may never leave. 😀

CABR: Isn’t it gorgeous! St Maarten has some amazing views. Hope you get to visit the island one day 😀

STEP UP 3Welcome to CABR Quinn.

Quinn: Thanks for inviting me, Sasha

  • Is this your first time visiting a book review blog?

Quinn: Lyric and I recently visited one. I’m sorry she couldn’t make it today, but I’m happy to be here. The view is amazing. (Lifts elbow up onto the back of his chair, leans to the side)

  • Do you feel your story was properly told by Robin Bielman?

Quinn: Robin did a great job. I’ve got to admit, a few of the details she coaxed out of me made me uncomfortable, but Lyric helped settle down my nerves.

CABR: Aww.

  • Who would you like to play you in a movie about your life?

Quinn: That’s flattering of you to ask. I’m not a big movie buff, but Lyric recently told me I resemble some guy named Rick Malambri (see photo), so I’ll go with him.

CABR: Handsome fella 😉 W

  • hat did you think of love and committed relationships before you became involved with Lyric Whetstone?

Quinn: I’ve always believed in it. Hell, my parents set a great example. But I didn’t know if it was in the cards for me. Wasn’t sure I could gamble with my heart like that. But the second I saw Lyric again, I knew I was screwed. I’d loved her my whole life and it was about time I did something about it.

YAM coverCABR:

  • How did you deal with the grief of losing your brother, Oliver and then ‘hooking up’ with Lyric briefly four years ago?

Quinn: (Runs a hand through his hair) I didn’t deal at all. I pushed away my feelings and my family and friends. That was easier than talking. After I left, not a day went by that I didn’t think about Lyric, though.

  • What’s your favourite way to relax?

Quinn: I don’t think I can share that with you. *winks*

CABR: 🙂

  • Are you a chocolate, fruits or veggies kind of guy?

Quinn: Strawberries dipped in chocolate and fed to Lyric. *smiles*

  • Do you have a special getaway that you like to take Lyric to?

Quinn: (Leans forward, whispers) Actually, I’m surprising her and taking her to Italy for Valentine’s Day. Rome, Venice, the Amalfi Coast. Between my parents and hers, I’ve got Max covered and I plan to… (straightens up) let’s just say I plan to indulge her every fantasy.

CABR: Wow. Lucky lady 🙂

  • What can you tell us about Robin’s next book? Will it be about a friend or family member of yours?

Quinn: (Glances at Robin, Robin waves) I know she’s got a couple of stories in the works, but not with anyone I know. Never say never, though.

CABR: I had so much fun chatting with you Quinn. Robin, thanks for stopping as well. Glad you enjoyed the view 🙂

As my regular followers know, I love Giveaways and today’s interview is no exception 😀

Beyond The Page: “If You Believe In Me” by Natalie J. Damschroder

Jan 16

IYBIM cover

Natalie J. Damschroder is visiting Caribbean Accent Book Reviews today to talk about her novella from Entangled Publishing‘s Flirt line, “If You Believe In Me.”

CABR: Welcome Natalie 🙂

NJD: Thanks so much for having me! I really enjoy reading the reviews here. 🙂

CABR: Thanks! That means a lot.

I loved that Amber has such faith in Kale’s safe return from the war zone in “If You Believe In Me.” (Click on red works for BUY LINKS/Info)

How’d you come up with the idea for the plot? Do you know
someone who went through a similar experience?

NJD: I don’t. This was one of those ideas that leaped into my head. I was
invited to submit a Christmas novella, and I thought about the kinds of movies
that the Hallmark Channel does in December. Reunion romance! Military hero!
Small-town heroine! And he’s racing to get home to her, and she thinks he’s
dead! It really appealed to my inner romantic. 🙂

CABR: How challenging was it to get into the h/H mindsets?

Natalie J. DamschroderNJD: Interestingly, I think it was easier to get into Kale’s head than Amber’s.
My editor has more insight into the life of a military family than I do,
and she helped me TONS on the revisions.

Amber’s superstitions came from
her, and I’m incredibly grateful to have her (my editor, that is) on my team.

She makes me better with every word she makes me rewrite. 🙂

CABR: Tell us about your favourite scene in the novella.

NJD: Boy, that’s hard. I have favourite bits in a lot of scenes. To pick an
entire scene, though, I’ll have to go with Kale’s first scene. He and his team
are moving in on a target, and he’s distracted by his frustration at not
being able to get home. His team members are named after some of my family
members who are in the military. My brother, who is active Army, and my
cousin, who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I won’t spoil things by
saying what happens, but it does complicate Kale’s goal quite a bit.

CABR: That was a truly nail-biting scene. At one point you’re not sure who might end up dead in the shoot out.

(GIVEAWAY. Complete this form>>a Rafflecopter giveaway <<)

Will we get to read more about Amber and Kale? Perhaps in a novel or as
supporting cast for another couple?

IYBIM coverNJD: No one knows this yet, but I do have an idea for a sequel featuring two of
the secondary characters in “If You Believe in Me“, and Amber and Kale would
of course have to appear in that!

CABR: Sweet! Looking forward to that. Hope it features Danny. 🙂

Is this your first published novel or first with Entangled Publishing? Tell us about ‘the call’.

NJD: I’ve had several books and novellas published with other publishers. This
is my second title with Entangled. It’s funny – I sold my first book in 1999,
but the sale of “Under the Moon” to Entangled was the first time I ever got
an actual phone call from the acquiring editor. Entangled was brand new.

They’d quickly rejected my first submission (though did say they’d like me to
revise and resubmit). I offered them a different story to consider, and two
days later, Liz Pelletier called me to make my first multi-book offer.
I’ve had a lot of great experiences with my publishers, but that was one of
the best. 🙂 I’m so lucky to be one of Entangled’s authors and look forward
to publishing many, many more things with them.

CABR: Chocolate or fruits?

NJD: Oh, man, no contest. Chocolate! LOL

CABR: Clothes and shoe shopping or perusing a book stores as a form of relaxation/fun?

NJD: OMG, please don’t make me go shoe shopping! Clothes shopping is slightly
(but only slightly) less torturous. I could spend a week in a book store, so
definitely that one. 🙂

CABR: OK, no more torture. 😉 Paperbacks or eBooks?

CABR: Both! Since I got my first e-reader a few years ago (a gift from my
husband), I’ve read more e-books because it’s SO easy to buy them. But I always
have print books as well, and go back and forth a lot. I actually find it
easier to get immersed in a print book than an e-book, though not as much as I
did when I first started.

CABR: I totally agree with you about the feel of a paperback and the joy of turning a physical page but eBooks are SO convenient, especially when ordering online or reviewing ARCs (Advanced Review Copy).

Thanks for stopping by Natalie and feel free to visit again when your next book
comes out. 🙂

NJD: Thanks again, Sasha!
