CABR Top Pick, Interview & Giveaway: “The Enforcer (Untamed Hearts #3)” by Kele Moon

Mar 27

Top Pick large image

Review: Kele Moon practically ripped my heart out (before putting it back together with duct tape) in part one of THE ENFORCER. I have faith that it will heal properly when part two comes out in a few months; Enforcer’s Revenge (Untamed Hearts #4)

If I thought I was invested in all of the main characters from their first appearance in the BATTERED HEARTS series but I was wrong. This book…took me places. It had me crying, laughing and cheering as Valentino “Tino” Moretti and his siblings did what they had to do to not only survive the abuse they each suffered but to find pockets of joy and love which made life worth living.

I strongly advise that once you’ve gotten your copy of THE ENFORCER, clear your schedule. It. Is. That. Riveting! 🙂

Guest Post & Giveaway: “Proof of Their Sin” by Dani Collins

Jul 1

Proof of their Sin cover

I’m thrilled to visit with Sasha today, for my official release of PROOF OF THEIR SIN, which is technically my second book, but is also my North American debut.

You see my ‘real’ first book, the one I waited most of my life to sell, came out with Mills & Boon in London this January. Unfortunately for me, Mills and Boon had been working hard to bring their UK and Australia publication dates in line with the North American ones and they did — in February. The month after No Longer Forbidden? came out.

Sasha’s was my very first request from a reviewer. I was thrilled and excited and completely stymied in trying to get her a copy. You should have seen the hoops and barrels. I won’t bore you with the details, but the irony was, in the end she sent me a photo of the book in one of her local stores. So it was available in the West Indies, but not in Canada. (Curse you, international trade agreements. *shakes fist*)

The good news for North American readers is, No Longer Forbidden? will come out as part of a 2 for 1 promotion with my December book, and the stories are linked. So enjoy that when it shows up, but for now I’m thrilled to see PROOF OF THEIR SIN hit the shelves worldwide today (July 1), which you may or may not know is also Canada Day.

Which makes for another reason I’m thrilled to party here with Sasha. With her Mardi Gras (Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago) experience, I know she can do it up right. Parades, fireworks, music. By contrast, us Canadians often need time to warm up (literally) before we loosen up. That’s certainly the problem my heroine, Lauren, faces in PROOF OF THEIR SIN.

Lauren is a ‘good girl’ Canadian from the prairies who married well, yet always carried a torch for her husband’s best friend. Paolo is Italian, need I say more? He swore he’d never touch Lauren despite their nearly impossible to resist attraction. When Lauren’s husband dies, they’re grief-stricken and seek comfort with each other, not expecting passion to flare or for the stork to come nesting.

To celebrate my North American debut, I’ll give away a copy of Proof Of Their Sin to one lucky commenter here. Tell me about your Mardi Gras experience or your favorite way to celebrate.

Also, if you happen to see PROOF OF THEIR SIN ‘in the wild,’ I’d love you to snap a photo and send it to me through Twitter, Facebook, or my website (see below.) I’ll draw a winner from those entries at the end of July.

Proof of their Sin coverHere’s the blurb for PROOF OF THEIR SIN:

A beautiful mistake…

Pregnant. Lauren Bradley’s heart stops-there’s only one man who can be the father and it’s not her late husband, the man everyone thinks is a celebrated war hero….

Ravaged with guilt at sleeping with his best friend’s wife, Paolo Donatelli closes his heart to Lauren forever. But in nine months’ time, the proof of their incredible night together will be there for the world to see.

Marriage is Paolo’s answer to avoiding more scandal, but it’s Lauren’s worst fear-she still bears the scars from the first time she said I do. Can she trust Paolo enough to reveal the truth?

Dani Collins pictureBio:

Dani Collins spent two decades submitting to every publisher with a transom while holding down a day job and raising a family with her high school sweet heart.

When The Call finally came, Dani ran with it, going to contract on eight books in that first year. Along with her Harlequin Mills & Boon titles, she has an epic fantasy romance, The Healer, with Champagne Books and an indie-published rom-com, Hustled To The Altar.

While her stories span very different genres, she always delivers alpha-male heroes squaring off with spirited heroines in a deeply emotional, unforgettable romance.

Beyond The Page: “Fast Forward” by Juliet Madison

Mar 7

Are you a fan of “what-if” movies, or Charles Dickens’ classic novel, “A Christmas Carol”?

Then you are going to love today’s featured book – FAST FORWARD, written by Escape Publishing author, Juliet Madison. 😀

Read on to find the answer to the GIVEAWAY question.

Juliet_Madison picWhat inspired you to write the ‘time travel’ / ‘what if’ story featured in FAST FORWARD? (How would you categorise your book?)

I was reading a book one night which had a character who acted beyond her years, and I had the sudden idea of what it might be like if a character ‘looked’ beyond her years.

I was reminded of movies like 13 Going on 30 / Suddenly 30 and Big, but I thought it would be fun to have a character become an age she considers undesirable.

So I created a character who is a young model and made her become a fifty year old overnight. I thought time travel would be the best way to bring her to that age, so she could see what her life would be like in the future if she made different choices.

So it’s very much a ‘what-if’ scenario… What if I went to an event I hadn’t planned on attending? What if I said yes instead of no…that sort of thing.

FAST FORWARD is a bit of a mix of genres. It’s placed in the fantasy category in some online stores, obviously because of the time travel and futuristic element, but at its heart it’s a romantic comedy. It could also be classed as a time travel romance.

What’s the most surprising feedback you’ve gotten from readers about this story?

It’s been great to get reader feedback on this book, and one thing that’s surprised me is how many people have cried during it! I made sure that the book had an emotional element and covered some serious issues as well as the lighter ones.

But as the book is mostly a fun comedy I’ve been surprised by how it has affected people emotionally and how many people have resonated with Kelli’s self-perception and experience in the book. It’s nice to know it’s struck a chord with readers on a deeper level as well as made them laugh.

FAST FORWARD coverHas writing FAST FORWARD inspired you to make any changes in your own life/ your approach to situations?

Interesting question… if anything, it’s the changes I made in my life beforehand that led to me writing the book! My life had a big upheaval a few years ago and I decided to follow my passion for writing, and so I tend to include these ‘life-change’ elements in my writing now as I draw on my own experiences.

However, writing the book has reminded me that it’s important to make sure your life is fun, don’t get bogged down by life’s difficulties, and take time for the simple pleasures.

What’s next for you in 2013?

2013 is already becoming a very busy year!! I’ve just signed my second contract with Escape Publishing for another novel, THE JANUARY WISH, which will be out in December of this year.

I’ve completed a couple of novellas that I hope to get published, and I’m working on a contemporary romance and another full length romantic comedy to hopefully follow on from FAST FORWARD. Somewhere in all that I hope I find time to sleep. 😉

trufflesChocolate or fruits?

If we’re going on taste alone with no regard for nutrition, then chocolate of course!

eBooks or paperbacks?

I LOVE holding a paperback in my hand, but since I’ve recently got a Kindle I’m going to say ebooks!! I love the wider variety of books available and cheaper price of them, not to mention the ease of reading and carrying with you.

Favourite book you read in 2012/2013?

Geez that’s tough, I find it so hard to pick favourites as I’ve read a lot of great books, but if I had to choose I’d say JILTED by Rachael Johns (who just so happened to win the best contemporary romance award at this year’s Australian Romance Reader’s Awards!).

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Another toughie! Can I be sneaky and say my future husband? I’m still waiting for the right one! 😉

Beyond The Page: “The Reluctant Wife” by Bronwen Evans

Jan 21

The Reluctant Wife coverWelcome to Caribbean Accent Book Reviews, Bronwen Evans. It’s fun getting to know more about new-to-me authors like yourself.

Readers, Bronwen has included a GIVEAWAY that’s tied into the excerpt from “The Reluctant Wife“.

Once you’ve read the excerpt, post your answer to her question in the Comments section.

Bronwen, let’s get right into things. 😀

  • CABR: The Reluctant Wife” is definitely not a Regency romance. What led you to write a contemporary romance and is this your first?

BE: Hi Sasha – Waving from New Zealand. I have been to your part of the world once. I spent 3 weeks in Turks and Caicos which was heaven on earth!

The Reluctant Wife” is my first contemporary romance. I wrote the story because Dante and Abby popped into my head one afternoon when I was feeling a bit sorry for myself (part of the story I can relate to very well). Once there, they would not leave. It just seemed to be one of those stories I had to tell. A girl who married too young, a man who felt the weight of duty, and what happens when life throws you a curve ball.

I enjoyed writing a contemporary for a change. I think it will keep my historical romances fresher. I’m hoping there will be more contemporaries for me. I suppose it will depend on how this does. I’m working on another now called “The Nanny Trap“.

Natalie J. DamschroderCABR: That’s great news 🙂 D

  • escribe Taylor and her estranged husband Dante in 10 words each.

BE: Abby – contained, warm, friendly, strong, determined, loyal, beautiful, sexy, loveable, empathetic

Dante – handsome, witty, ruthless, stubborn, loyal, responsible, leader, arrogant, humble, loveable

  • Did you have a special song/s that you listened to while writing “The Reluctant Wife”?

BE: Yes – I played Keith Urban’s, Days Go By

CABR: I’ll have to check that out. So, w

  • hat are you working on this year?

BE: I’ve got loads on this year. I’m writing two Regency romances, one, “Invitation to Passion“, I’m self-publishing April 2013, and other is book two, “A Touch of Marriage“, book two in my Disgraced Lords series for my contract with Random House Loveswept. I’m hoping to publish one contemporary romance, “The Nanny Trap“, and three long Regency novellas to self-publish. I may not get all of the novellas finished but I’ll try….

CABR: Wow. Best of luck with all that Bronwen 🙂

The Reluctant Wife coverCABR:

  • Which character from fiction, yours or another author’s, would you like to spend time with and why?

BE: I spend time with my characters every day, and I can talk to them whenever I like, so, I’d probably want to meet another author’s characters.

Then I could delve deeper and ask more questions. The one I’d really like to grill and probably kick him up the backside is Mac Mackenzie from Jennifer Ashley’s “Lady Isabella’s Scandalous Marriage“. What was he thinking…

  • Coffee or Tea?

BE: Tea. Coffee is not good for anyone suffering from Endometriosis.

CABR: I did not know that. Good info.

Dogs or Cats?

BE: I’m a definite dog person but I get terrible hay fever so they have to be dogs with wool coats not fur, like a poodle.

CABR: Beach or spa vacation?

BE: Spa vacation. I love the water but prefer lakes, rivers or the best swimming pools. I can’t be dealing with all the sand…However; I would make an exception for the fine sandy white beaches of the Caribbean. We don’t have those in NZ, only coarse grey sand.

CABR: You’re welcome in my neck of the Caribbean anytime. 🙂

The Reluctant Wife coverExcerpt from “The Reluctant Wife“:

Abby took a step back. “No. I listened enough for the first twelve months of my marriage. Not this time. This time you listen. Don’t expect me to be a doormat. I came here thinking you’d do the decent thing and help me. I thought you’d do anything for your family. I thought, for old times’ sake, that vow might extend to me and my grandmother.”

Her words needled him until his temper rose.

“One favor deserves another. It’s not as if I’m asking for anything you did not stand in a church and vow to give me. Besides, having you back in my bed would be a pleasure—for us both.” Her face flooded with color at her words.

The corners of her lips turned down. “Sex. You’re all about sex. But not because you want me, but because you crave a child.”

“You’re wrong. You don’t understand. You think you know me, mio fiore, but you don’t.”

She raised her head high. “I’m pretty sure you no longer know me at all. I want and deserve more from a marriage. My answer is no. Categorically no. I’ll find another way to get the money.”

“You and I were married. You are still my wife.”

Abby’s eyes glittered with distaste. “Your problem, not mine. I have no intention of marrying again so I’m more than happy to wait the three years for a divorce. Screw your business deal. Isn’t the Lombardi Group big enough as it is? Why do you want more?” She looked at her watch. “It’s late. I’m tired. As it appears you haven’t changed one bit, I’ll take my leave.”

Abby turned and started toward the door.

Va bene. Do what you do so well—run away again, Abby.”

She hesitated with her hand on the door handle.

She threw a look over her shoulder. “Good-bye, Dante. Have a nice life. I’m sure you’ll have no problem replacing me. You’ve made it perfectly clear I am not, and never was, important to you.”

I hope you enjoy THE RELUCTANT WIFE. Feel free to email me and let me know.

Giveaway: Now, tell me what “Va bene” means in Italian and I’ll draw one lucky winner who’ll receive a copy of my May 2012 Regency historical, Invitation to Scandal, in book or eBook format.

Review: “Marriage Behind The Facade” by Lynn Raye Harris

Jan 2

MBTF pic 2Title: Marriage Behind The Facade

Series: Bound By His Ring

Author: Lynn Raye Harris

Rating: 5 stars

Publisher: Harlequin Presents

Publication date: January 2, 2013

Review: Lynn Raye Harris has done it again! A passionate tale of two tortured souls who find each other but struggle to express themselves emotionally.

Marriage Behind The Facade” opens with Sydney Al Dhakir signing divorce papers to end her marriage to Sheikh Malik ibn Al Dhakir.

Malik learns of her decision to contact a lawyer and shows up unexpectedly in California that same day. Sparks fly but Sydney is determined to remain strong and end her one-sided marriage – she loves Malik but he is an emotionally-distant man and has been overheard saying his marriage to her was a mistake.

STAR-5I love how Sydney gets her soon-to-be ex to fork out a ton of money for a Malibu property. 🙂

But as with many alpha heroes, Malik refuses to lose his wife ‘just so’ and evokes an ancient law from his homeland of Jahfar – they must spend 40 days together as a couple before a divorce can be granted.

But it’s not until Sydney and Malik enter the Al Na’ir desert that they give in to their sizzling attraction to one another. Boy oh boy do they steam up that shower! ;D

MBTF coverAlas, hot sex isn’t enough to overcome the emotional distance on Malik’s part and the reluctance on Sydney’s part to lay all her cards on the table…That is until they end up trapped in the Land Rover during a sand storm.

I love how Lynn Raye Harris brings this couple together. You’re rooting for them the whole way but nothing happens as expected. Hence my 5 star review. Looking forward to more sexy sheikhs from Lynn! 😀

Synopsis: Sydney Reed dreamed of being a princess in a faraway land, and couldn’t believe that smolderingly sexy Sheikh Malik of Jahfar would marry plain old her—even out of convenience. But the dream has ended and she’s back to reality with a thud!

Now Sydney needs his signature on the divorce papers—Malik, however, has other ideas. Jahfaran law requires that they spend forty days together as man and wife before Sydney can be free of him forever. Out in the scorching desert, Malik holds all the power—he’ll make sure their forty nights are more than worth it…
